How to remove the shift ****?

I did a search but cant find clear instructions. I bought a new shift **** and I cant seem to get the old one off. I unscrewed it but the shifter boot came off with it. I need to remove just the **** and reuse the old shift boot. How exaclty do I do this? Also the Hurst **** I bought came with different adapters for the thread size, what is the thread size on the manaul v6?

There is a rubber band like thing that holds the boot to the ****. I used a small screwdriver, or an awl or a scribe from inside the boot to help lift the rubber o-ring from the groove in the bottom of the ****.
Hope this helps.

Just pull. The boot should pull off with minimal force. I didn't need to use any tools for either of mine.

Never mind I got it. I just had to pull the ring around the shift **** harder than I thought. Pointless thread now, mods please delete.
