How much Dynamat for the trunk?
How many sq feet do I need to cover the bottom, and maybe the sides, of the trunk? I don't want to buy too much, but want enough to do it once and be done. I'm just looking to quiet the drone from the new mufflers that I put on. I love their sound, but under load and in the right RPM range it's enough to drive you out of the car, guess I'm getting old. I searched on the subject and found people who did it, even emailed a few, but no one talked about the amount.

If you are trying to chase away the drone I highly recommend doing under the back seats also.
Not sure how much for just the trunk / spare tire hole / rear inner fenders. But add under the rear seats to that and that is what I did to mine. Used almost all of a 50sqft roll.

Wow, you guys went light. I put 300 sq of mat and 3 gallons of liquid in mine- and it could use that much more. But, I did doors, floor, firewall, trunk...basically everything but the roof.

is this the same as hushmat. I saw a commercial on spike tv, for hushmat, it looks pretty awesome and comes in pre cut squares, just peel and stick. Anyway any info on it would be great. Thanks.

Leo, I found the Dynamat Extreme on Crutchfield and then searched for a better price via Froogle. It was about $120 for 50 sq ft I believe. I just wasn't sure if that would be enough.
From what Hawgman is saying 50sqft should do the trick.
Infinity, that thing must be as quite as a Cadillac now. My car is a vert, so complete sound reduction isn't ever going to happen.
Thanks guys

It's should be about 25 lbs. They seem to average about .5 lb/sq ft.
Check out this site for some specs and comparisons:

I used Second Skin Audio's Damplifier Pro and I'm very impressed with it. I've used a total of 48 sq ft.
10 sq ft in each door, 4 sq ft on the parcel shelf and 24 sq ft in the trunk.

Same thing I used. V1se and V3 liquid. I'll have more to do when it gets warm. Saleen VII and more deadener.

I too have installed the Dynamat Extreme and TAC Mat in my Stang....whatever you do - don't buy it from Crutchfield - way too expensive....I had a couple of places but since losing my hard drive - don't have the URL's anymore....do a search here as I had posted that I was looking for Dynamat at a discounted price and did get a good response. Using the Dynamat extreme, you can even install under the car around the muffler cavities and the transmission tunnel - really helped quiet down my '05.
The TAC mat works great using 3M Super Spray Adhesive and it excellent for the inside of plastic door, dash, kick, trunk panels, etc.

well i'm a complete n00b to this stuff too..
so i'm wondering.. in the spare tire well, we have the FPDM mounted on the side.
do you cover this with dynamat?
do you remove it, install the dynamat, then put it back on
or do you just cut around it?
similarly under the backseats.. what about the fuel pump rubber access cover?
sure you can do it either way, but what's the convention here?
finally, how thick is this stuff? i know most sound deadening material weighs plenty!

i'm just wondering how well does the Dynamat go around corners and such
#20
It goes around corners fine. It's just like hanging wall paper....well...wall paper that is made from tar and asphault that is heavy and has a sharp foil covering. But you get the point. It will go around anything you want it to go around. Just be sure to get the roller when you order the mat.
