How to get around the parking brake thing to watch dvd's

I just installed an alpine iva-w200 (double din dvd player and screen), and id like to know how to bypass the parking brake. Ive heard a toggle switch can be used, but can someone tell me how to do this? Thanks

(no i am not dumb enough to watch a dvd while i am driving, but i would like my passanger to be able to on road trips)

I'm no wiring expert but I'd think you could tap into the wire that runs to the parking break. Run a wire to your toggle switch and one from the switch to the fuse box, turn the switch on to draw power to the parking break wire and your car would think it's on? I could be completely wrong but it makes sense to me!

I am almost positive that Adrenaline did that. What about the bypass kits I see on eBay? Good or just BS ?

I don't know where you are but, some states have laws prohibiting video monitors being on when they are viewable from the driver seat with the car in motion(this does not include navigation screens). Just something for you to consider in case you weren't aware of it.

Exactly why a "toggle" switch is required.

Seems overly complicated. Find the switch that's pushed when the parking brake is pulled. Wire another switch (hidden in the arm console) to the same wires. When either one is closed system will think brake is activated.

No need to run anything back to the fuse box.

i have illegal tint, no front plate (illegal here), no cats, clear corner lenses with white bulbs (waiting on stealthbulbs to send mine), and several other off road mods. Im not to worried about it being illegal but thanks

Im guessing both wires recieve a power as it says to splice into the brake lights, but according to my manual. i have ot have the key in acc position, press the brake down, pull the e-brake. release the e-brake and pull on it again, THEN the monitor willl turn on. Im thinking if i just hook up the brake wire, then run the other to a 12v power sourced toggle switch. Press the brake down, turn the toggle switch on, then off, then back on, this shoudl do it. Now, if only i still had my owners manual, maybe i could find the wire to splice into the brake light wire..... anyone nice enough to look it up for me? can i find an owners manual online?

Do a search on Adrenaline, he has a blog on his mods and adding the IVA-W200 is one of them. If I am not mistaken he has bypassed this problem, but can't remember how. I think he posted how he did it, I can't remember.

Most of those units, all you have to do is ground that parking brake wire. IDK about the IVA specifically, but that's all I've had to do on all the others I've installed, including the Kenwood in the wife's Jetta, and a Clarion in a good buddy's Exploder.

I must be gettin' old.
I've never understood the point of watching a movie while on the road.
(Even for passengers)
There's a whole dang world passing by outside the car.
That's how you learn about things (by observing them)

Rant finished. Back to your normal programming.

I have the pionner AVIC-N2 I believe it uses the GPS to tell if your moving. Id love to be able to have my passenger be able to do more with the GPS while moving. Ive been told the grounding of the parking brake wire wont work with mine.

It won't. I think there is a software hack. Search for it.

You don't want to just ground the wire, you want a switch in there.

Grounding it will give you that "Parking Break Engaged" message in the dash. Not certain if that state affects anything else, don't know how the computer reacts to that being on.

No, DO NOT ground your parking brake. Ground the wire that goes from your head unit to the parking brake.

FFH, I'll look to see if I can find that hack. I know I read it somewhere. It involved flashing the firmware.

There's apparently a way to run in/outs with an RCA line using the rear-camera feature. But, I'm not sure
