Homelink Install

I know there is a thread about a Homelink Install in the overhead but I have a convertable and that won't work. Just wondering if anyone has installed the homelink switch panel in another location. I'm thinking inside the console or the bottom of the drivers dash out of sight. Anyone done this and/or open to suggestions.

You can also replace the mirror with one that has Homelink buttons on it. They are available new and also show up used on eBay from time to time.

Another cheaper and much easier approach is to use one of these Flash-2-Pass openers. You basically tap into the highbeam wires feeding one your headlights for the transmitter and install the receiver at the door opener... then your garage door is activated by your momentary highbeam switch on your turn signal arm.

$80 and about 30 minutes to install. I installed my transmitter using 3M tape to the side of the passenger headlamp assembly.

How does the mirror get removed? I've seen a tool used but also some complaints of cracked glass.

When I put my gentex mirror on I took it to a glass shop thinking they would need to remove the oem button and put a new one on , but the new mirror fit on the oem button ...

The button is the piece glued to the windshield? How does the mirror attach to that?

My compass/dimming mirror on my 07 looks like a Gentex, hopefully the homelink version will be an easy swap. Power connections are there as well.

You are correct , the button is the piece glued to the windshield and if that has to be removed you can break the windshield while doing it. The mirror just slides onto the button , I don't remember if there was a set screw or not , but if there is you just loosen it first ...

Can the power connections from the Dim/Compass mirror in place be reused for a new Homelink mirror?
