Does anybody else think that the head restraints are uncomfortable?
I can't seem to adjust them from pushing my head forward...
Is there a way to remove them?

I am sure you can pull them out.

Remember that they are a safety item as well.. imagine if your car was rear-ended and you didn't have those restraints on

Who actually uses the head rests while your driving anyway? I know I don't drive with my head pinned back.

While I like them in all my cars, I can see some thinking they are the siphon. So, I am going to say:

Yes. Yes they can be removed.

What you damage removing them is up to you...

/me thinks a Dremel might work...

B) I actually like them. Reclined the the seat and it was the first time in a car where they're actually somewhat functional

I'm not sure how they are pushing your head forward? When I drove the 05 my head didn't even touch the restraints?

And steve's right, you need those incase you get rear-ended!

the function of them are so keep you from injuring your neck in a collision,, 5th Gear had a show on it. I don't think they are intended for resting your head on, but thats your choice,, hehe

do they move up and down? and are they solid?

I am not very tall myself, so they hit the back of my head funny, too. I raised it up a bit, and now it's perfect! Don't even know it's there!

This is where most people are Misinformed! They are Restraints, Not Rests. They are Called Head Rests, with the word Rest, as an Abreviation. They are designed to prevent you from getting Whiplash if you are Involved in an Accident!

Take it from someone with PERMANENT Neck Injuries, DO NOT
remove them! Move them either up or down untill you find the right position so that the back of your head doesn't touch the Restraint, but is not more than 1 inch away from it.

I find them to be Perfect to me, and think they're the best Head Restraints Ford has used since my, 87 Thunderbird. I even changed the ones I had in my 92 Lincoln Mark VII, to the Older Style like my 87 Thunderbird Turbo's, from an 89 Mark VII.

In 92 Ford changed them on Mark VII's to a Smaller Non Functional Head Restraint due to Older Customers Complaining that the larger more Effective Head Restraints blocked their visibility. Maybe it's just me but if they Block your visibility, Move the Seat!

Okay, I fully understand the safety factor of the head rests, but has anyone try removing them? I'm planning on getting some smaller, adjustable versions and I would like to know how easy(or how hard) it would be...

On most cars I have seen, you justt have to pull them up (sometimes the seat must be reclined in order to clear the roof) and they come right out...

Please do not remove them. If my dad hadn't added aftermarket head restraints on our 64 1/2 Stang, I would have had a broken neck. I was hit from behind and bent the restraints backwards at about a 60 degree angle.

Hey Frank, I don't know about the 05's but the ones on my 92 Lincoln Mark VII were a Pain to remove! They had the 70's style single post support though. I had to Unzip the bottom of the Seat back, and reach up inside with a Huge Screw Driver to release a catch that was not visible, and you really couldn't feel it either. I was really careful because all I could see was that screw driver slipping and ripping through my Leather.

Since the 05 has a 2 post type restraint, I would advise you to try to get a pair of 4 way adjustible restraints from an 03/04 Cobra or Mach 1, if you absoluley have to change them. They can at least be adjusted for reach as well as height.

They are perfect for me. My 05 300C has the same design. Must be new standards and I say- bout time! I like being able to touch the head restraint by moving my head only an inch. I think they are comfortable. Maybe all of you who say they aren't and you liked the older style better, well for years that style did nothing for me. They were to far back. Not its my turn to enjoy the seats you enjoyed them long enough!

I saw that show also! That crash they recreated at the end was horrible. I'm happy I drive a big truck

Have you tried reclineing the seat back a notch or two? That should make it more comfortable for you.

The Mustang went from having headrests that were an appearance item, to ones that are borderline intrusive. If you recline the seat to move you away from the headrest, it places the steering wheel further away. I'm just glad I don't use any oily hair care products like those in the movie "Coming to America".
