GPS systems....Does any one have a pic?
#1
I have a job that requires a lot of driving around the city. I know that all the city miles will be heck on my car but that just gives me an excuse to rebuild and customize everything in the future. I was thinking of getting a GPS system put in but I do not want to do that if it will look like crap (in a vert stang).
Any ideas?

Open position for navigation. this has worked well for me, but there is a newer one that gives real time traffic with the addition of XM radio. It's the AVIC-N2. Also, I hear from the grapevine that they are coming out with a fullscreen indash model soon .
Hope this helps you.
Good luck!!

Kevin - why not mount the head in the lower slot and move the empty cubby up? is that even possible? This way you won't have the blowers on the back of your display - looks better and is better on the screens.
FYI heat damages LCDs.

Thanks Peet......fully aware of the heat issue. I haven't found one that mounts the unit on the lower part of the opening. If you know of one, please shoot the website my way. I agree with you totally about the lower part being a better place to put the LCD.
Thanks!!

Yes it is....there is a unit that attaches to the steering wheel, that you can use voice activation to get the unit to work. The unit will also talk to you through your route so you can just listen to it. Its an extra that cost about 40 dollars. The unit complete without the adapters ran me 1400 bucks. At the time that was the cheapest I could find it. It's worked well for me as I travel alot with my 2 bands to different states.

Anyone find a "double din" (4 inch tall) system they like and installed it? That's the only way I will go. I don't want the screen flipping up, I just want it there. I know Crutchfield has a Kenwood they say fits, but I don't know how good Kenwood's NAV systems are. I hear a lot of good things about Alpine and Pioneer.

GPS works great. I have heard from people who have had several units, that they were impressed with kenwood. This is my only one, and I find it does a good job, but I have no basis of comparison. I got for about 1600, over ebay - - new.
looks factory

Looks good. I like it. And $1600 is a lot better than the Crutchfield price.
The next question is, if you have a Shaker 500 installed how much of it can you use (or would you want to) when you put this head unit in?

Yes, the shaker 500 speaker work.
You need a voltage regulator. Part # 7805 from Radio Shack, it has a 3 terminals and positive voltageā¦ this will Handle up to 35volt dc in, for which it was fed 12 volt, and 5 volt dc output. it was hooked in between turn on lead from aftermarket radio and the turn on lead of factory amplifieer. Without this part, you might get loud pops at startup.
I think the rear speakers are not putting out enough highs. My installer sugggests and amp would help get highs out of the rear. Another member suggested replacing the rear deck speakers. I have not done anything for this.
I have sirius hooked in also.
