Gauge Upgrade?

my dads 2005 mustang has the standard interior (plastic steering wheel, 4 gauge cluster, ect.) and he's wanting the additional gauges for the battey and oil level. my question is, can he get the IUP gauges with 6 gauges and install them no trouble or would that not work??

I did the 6 gauge upgrade on my 05 V6 a few months ago after the fuel gauge on my old 4 gauge cluster went out. I purchased the cluster from Discount Auto (who orders it from a local wrecking service) and purchased the 3 buttons from a discount Ford OEM parts supplier in Vegas. Installed both and they worked without problem. After doing that test install and making sure everything worked I went to someone local (Tampa, FL) to have the Odometer in the "new" cluster match the old. Now, the only trouble I have is the ABS and Parking Brake lights stay lit because the VIN hasn't been updated to the cluster. I just don't feel like going to the Ford dealership to have that done. All in all, it cost me around $300 for cluster, buttons, and adjusting odometer. It'll cost me another $100+ to have the VIN flashed to the new cluster but so far the lights don't bother me.

Depends on the money situation... I'm cheap and found the cheap way to do it. The Ford Dealership, if you have one willing to listen to you and believe it can be done, will do it right. A lot of the dealerships around me refused to believe you could swap the 2 different clusters and kind of rubbed me the wrong way so I did it myself. It'll just cost you more.

Other option would be to put in a gauge cluster on top of the dash with real gauges instead of the semi idiot-light gauges that are in the 6 gauge cluster itself.

I say do what i am going to do, go with the Roush vent pods, or the SOS pillar pods, and get two Aeroforce Interceptor scan gauges. I learned the hard way when my battery died and the Volt gauge on the dash said i still had a good charge on the battery. Adding the factory gauges is just adding flash to the dash since they do not accurately read the detailed signal and just read if there is 5v or not. For me paying $500 for 2 gauges that take the place of 6 or even 10 is a better choice in my book.

I picked up the Saleen dual gauge top of dash pod alone, without gauges, on ebay for 30-40 bucks. Would easily mount the interceptors, which get their data from the OBDII system, or would mount two electrical gauges with their own sender units. Might not look OEM, but you get real info, not the on/off of the factory cluster 'gauge'.
