ford mach speaker?
So i took my dirivers side door apart as I am replacing my speakers. To my suprise, I found this in the 5 x 7. I have the shaker 1000 system, but to my understanding the door speakers were still 5x7s. Anyone have an idea of what this speaker is or its stats or anything like that?

So that's the door speaker of a 460 mach? Because everywhere I've looked, I've seen that the doors are woofers and there are 4 seperate tweeters. I don't believe that's a 460 unless its a later version or something. I have an 01.

I have the shaker 500 speakers and when I replaced my door speakers that is exactly what I had , they're made to fit a 5X7 speaker hole but not actually a 5X7 speaker. I replaced mine with a Kicker component set , an actual 5X7 speaker and a separate 1" tweeter which I put in the door panel above the 5X7 speaker. I get a lot better sound with the tweeter up high and for some reason Ford put the speaker in so the tweeter is on the bottom , so if I still had them in I would turn them around ...

Hmm...that's weird. I'm considering just replacing my 460 with a component system.
That kicker system you got? You got specs on it? Or a link? Because I've been looking for a good one and not sure if I should keep the amps or if new component speakers with be 6 or 8ohms as well.

Here's a link to what I've got , but I think I got mine off eBay , I don't remember for sure. They're pretty inexpensive compared to the other component sets out there , most were around $400 , so I would hope they sound a lot better for the price difference. Anyway , these sound a lot better than the OEM ones did , so they're fine for me ...

I'm running some fairly high end 4 ohm componets off of the stock amps until I get my new 4 channel amp in, and they are fine. It shouldn't hurt them unless ur really maxing them out. The stock amps are pretty cheap, if you really want some good sound get a decent 2 or 4 ch, for the speakers. Doesnt have to be that powerful, just good quality.

also if you want some ore options you can go with 5 1/4" round speakers and just use these adapter brakets and the will fit right in without any cutting.

My '06 with Shaker 1000 came with the same crap speakers in the door. Upgraded to Kicker KS68 6x8s and the difference is amazing. So much clearer and louder, well worth doing it. Got mine from here $65 shipped and has everything you need to install. Direct drop in fit.
