Thumbs up

Has anyone figured out how to activate the factory shift indicator light that's in the middle of the tach? You can see the outline with a flashlight, right below the 4K mark. It's shown lit up in some early dash pics, but apparently didn't get activated for production.

I'm assuming it's a redline shift light, not a "shift now for best fuel economy" light like my old, crapper Grand Am had.

If it were to work, it would be a shift light in the nature of best fuel economy.

03/04 Cobras have the same light and it is funcitonal on them.

there is no LED on the circuit board for that location.

There is a shift light on the Shelby, but it's for fuel economy, not red-line.

Ick. OK, thanks for the responses. Last thing I need it a little arrow going off every time I hit 2,500 RPM or something.

Is this a simple fix like putting a bulb in it and activating through the PCM to activate at a certain RPM? The MPG can be adjusted if turned on by the PCM it is just a switch, so ...........

That is true. Shelby owners will be able to program their shift light through the same menu most of us use to set MyColor.

When GM released the GTO in 04 here in the states it came with a shift lite as well and GM didn't activate either. But it was soon discovered that the scanner used to program the cluster could also turn on and set the RPM point for the shift light.

So, we need an enterprising Ford tech to step up and investigate this.

If there is no LED on the board then it is going to be way more of a pain than on the GTO.

I know, I was using that as an example of it being there and not turned on. Contacted JDM and they said it was more of a mpg shift than a shift light, BUT, it most be triggered by RPM. They suggested contacting SCT. So I will

Im keeping an eye on this one.

When you say there is no LED on the pcb...is the circuit there for it and it just isn't soldered in, or is the circuitry non existant?

Here's a response from a 2005 Mustang engineer:

I'm trying to chase down the answer for you. I don't think that we have an LED on the board in that spot so it will be more than just a hack [into the menu]...

Would someone mind linking me to relevant files on how to remove and reinstall the cluster/calibrating the needles?

In a previous discussion on this, someone suggested making the whole dash the shiftlight. Pick your base mycolor, your shift mycolor, have at it.
