Dead Pedal
#1
Help ! I want to improve upon the dead pedal design. For me, what comes with the car is to flat, and does not feel right. I was thinking that I could make something that sits on top of the existing pedal, so that it will sit upright, at the same angle as the clutch pedal. I would like to attach it with screws to the existing dead pedal, but I don't quite know what lurks in there. When I snake my hand underneath the carpet I can wiggle the existing dead pedal, but I really can't figure out what holds it in place. I'm to chicken to start popping off the trim and tearing back the carpet to really check it out.
Is there anyone that has any photo's of this area, or service manual schematics that reveal how the existing pedal is fastened, and what else may be under there ? I want to make sure that there are no wires, etc.

Its pretty sad, I get to answer my own post
I had the opportunity to get under the drivers carpeting this week. The dead pedal is not much of a pedal at all. It is part of a formed insulation pad that starts from the floor and works it way up the firewall. The pedal is a lump in the pad. I used screws to fasten my extension to it, and it held pretty good, but not nearly as secure as a connection into steel.
Do you guys or girls who have purchased dead pedals just screw them into the same lump ? Or do the pedals come with a bracket to fasten them into something more substantial ? If so, what do they fasten to ?

Donna, that is a nice looking pedal. Is that one of the Ultimate Pedals ? I know what you mean about getting the screws to catch. I was toying with the idea of using an expanding anchor (like you would use in sheetrock).

Yes, thats the Ultimate pedals dead pedal. They should have put something more under there to catch too. I first had the screws at the top in the middle holes but it pulled loose. So far...knock on wood...its staying with the screws like they are. You are not screwing into much more than a piece of carpet.
If you figure out something better let me know!!
