In Dash GPS with Nav/Ipod

Im looking to replace my shaker 500 with an In-Dash Navigation system and was wondering what was the cheapest option out there? The only other thing I want/need it to do is Ipod hookup. Im not looking to break the bank here but Id really like to get a new headunit. Any suggestions?

Eric, you can get a cut-rate on D3's on Ebay now. Since they no longer make them, they are available and cheap to buy!!

Yeah, the Pioneer D3 with the Ipod cable is the way to go.

Yea thats kind of what Ive been leaning towards doing anyway. Do you think $600 is a good deal for one? Also, what other parts will I need to pick up to get this to work with a 2005 mustang? Ill probably buy the system on ebay and then buy the installation kit from crutchfield, will I need any other misc. parts for the install?

Hey Eric, $600 is a good price. As for what you need? Just order the install kit from Crutchfield. You'll get the install instructions for the Mustang, trim piece, and wiring harness. Its an easy install. If you decide on this, and want some help installing it, let me know.

Thanks for the info and the offer Jeff. I was really about to finally do this and would have loved your help with it, and then I went and cracked my CDC classic chin spoiler up on a curb on the way to lunch yesterday. so now I gotta replace that which means most of the money I had just saved up for this will now be going towards a replacement chin spoiler. That was one expensive lunch trip

I saw the D3 for less than $600 1.5 years ago. When I was considering the D3 instead of the carPC I was finding them for around $470. Keep searching and you will find a good deal.

You should also know that the Avic D3 was replaced by the avic 700bt (not DVD) and the 900bt (with DVD capability). The 700bt seems to be a very good unit that fixes all the bugs of the D3 for example with the D3 you cant play a cd and use the NAV because you must have the nav DVD in the unit to use the GPS. Only negative of the new 700bt and 900bt is the screen is a little smaller. The prices are still good. I have found the 700 for as cheap as 500

Yes, while the BT did replace the D3, there were ALOT of bugs in the early units, that some of the updates still haven't fixed yet. And some of those early units are still on the shelves. If someone were to buy a unit in a Best Buy or such, they could be getting an early HU with the glitches. I played with one at my local Best Buy and there was such a long lag after pushing buttons it was horrid. My D3, VERY quick. I have though of upgrading my D3, but just can't justify it. About your statement with the CD vs NAV disc? Yes, thats true, but lets be honest, when's the last time you used a CD? I haven't used a CD in a car in over 3 years. I have the $20 iPod cable, and the iPod in the glovebox. All my music is there, and the Nav disc stays in the unit. NO PROBLEMS! And as for DVD? I just import them into my iPod as well, or have some movies I buy on iTunes.
