I'm looking into getting a In-Dash DVD player. I haven't decided on any particular model yet. Most (actually all) of the ones I've seen, have a video lockout mode, which prevents the player from playing DVDs/Videos while the car is in motion. I would like to know:

- How easy is it to bypass this feature?
- Can you bypass it by just not making the required connections or do you need some sort of a chip/program etc.?
- Is it easier to do on one model than another? If so, please specify the brand.

I'm sure some of you here might have already done this. Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. - I know a Carputer will not have this lockout problem, but I'm a complete noob when its comes to wiring etc. So I'm not interested in them.

Manufactures do that for safety reasons. If you're getting a Nav unit, it will not work properly if bypassed. But as far as I know, you need to ground it to a line that will make the unit think the parking brake is engaged.

Or an alternative would be to drive with the E brake up 1 click. That's what my buddy does in his Scion. I don't think the E brake even engages yet, but it grounds the wire.

Simply ground the wire that normally goes to the ebrake, works on most systems, some of the newer Alpine units still require something inline I believe but most of the rest can be done.

I grounded mine to the bolt on the drivers seat right front railing. Def not legal and I would expect to get heck if pulled over for watching a movie which I wouldn't do unless on a crosscountry trip with passenger.

A few years back I had a Toyota Tacoma that I had the people who installed it wire a toggle switch to the monitor, that way I could just flip the switch and it would shut off the picture like it was installed correctly.
