This might be a stupid, or impossible to do idea, but since Ive had alot of problems with my shaker 500 unit skipping on cds and have had it replaced 3 times now, do you think it would be possible for me to take it to my dealer and tell them to replace my unit one of the 07 or 08 units with the standard auxilary hookup? Even if they wont give one to me, could i just buy one and would it work in an 05?

 

I doubt the dealer can do it under warranty as he gets paid by Ford to replace parts with what is specified. However, if you are out of warranty, he can sell you a newer shaker. The parts dept can compare part numbers and maybe let you look at one to see if the connectors are the same.

 

I would say you may be better off trying to get one from ebay. You can usually get one for a lot less than from the dealer and are just as functional. Just makes sure that the seller say that the radio works are you are good. I bought the shaker 500 head unit about a year ago to replace the basic head unit and it has worked awesome ever since...never had any problems.

 

Why not just go after market. Here's one that uses a flash memory card in SD format instead of CD's. $150 at Crutchfield, check it out in this thread......
