Car Computer in 2005 Mustang GT
I have just about completed my project of installing a car computer into my 05 Mustang GT. It has been a real fun project and I am glad it is winding down. I have a little tweaking to do but for the most part it works great.
It has a 7-inch touch screen to run my programs from. I’m using Media engine, seems to be the easiest to use. I customized the screen to go with my GT car. I can run MP3 files, GPS tracking (Delorme Street Atlas), it can run XM radio, FM Radio (I didn’t install this option on my setup), watch movies (passenger only), and about any other external app you can run on windows XP, so if you can run it on your home computer, you can run it on this.
I tied it all into a JL Audio amp to run the main factory speakers and kept the Shaker 1000 subs for base. Sound pretty good to. I have attached some screen shots for you to check out. I haven’t finished my custom silver faceplate that will fill in the gaps on the dash and around the DVD ROM drive. I’m making it out of fiberglass with a friend of mine.

Where did you order it? I love the look, and I can't wait to see the final product once you finish the fiberglass.

Most of the info I got to order was from www.MP3car.com. I then pieced together parts and pieces. If you want a complete list of where I got what from let me know. I'll have to look everything up, but I would be glad to share it with you.

Yep, I had it put in when I bought it. It cost about 1000, but it has a lifetime warranty as long as I own the car....

I'll post it this weekend.
Hey Scott,
I've been doing a lot of research over at mp3car.com and was hoping you could post some more info on your install. How is the motorized screen holding up so far? And did you ever get a faceplate made?

WarningSLO
I did have one problem with the screen. It acted like it didn’t want to work. I contacted DigitalWW and he was great about warranty. Ever since then no problems. I did finish the face plate, but haven’t installed it yet. I had surgery and it kind of hard to work when your sore. I’m hoping to get to in the next week. I did have one guy come up with a good idea. Mount the DVD rom in center console and put a full screen that doesn’t flip up in the opening. I might have looked at that stronger, but I didn’t think about putting DVD in that place.
Caleb,
I Got a mini-ITX case from Directron.com their part number CS-C158. I mounted it in the trunk between the speakers. The only thing about that case, I put a P4 mother board in and the power supply didn’t work with it. I ended up buying a OPUS 150 watt dc-dc power supply with auto shut down. Mounted it outside the case.

One other thing that another guy found out. To get rid of the pop when you turn things on see below:
Thanks. I spoke with hawgman on this forum last night, and he told me that to get rid of the thump on the sub amps, a 5volt turn on is needed, not a 12v like you and I are giving it. To fix this, he reccomended a voltage regulator from Radio Shack, here is the part: +5V Fixed-Voltage Regulator, part # 7805. Just has a 12v input wire, a ground, and a 5volt output wire. He used this, and the thump is now gone! Only 1.45 for the part, can't go wrong.
