Well got the ashtray / lighter kit the other day, and it has two gaskets on it for different size cupholders, neither really fit, has anyone put in a kit yet. Also the lighter that comes with it, has its own lighter housing as well, and I am not sure if you drill a hole in the center console and attach it or are you supposed to take out the power adapter and put that in. As the cigarette lighter does not actually fit the power adapter, it slides in, but nothing to actually hold it in or so it can charge.
Anyone have any info on these kits or what did you all do for installation? Thanks for any info.

Where's you order this kit? For the record I only smoke in my new baby with the top down. But, it sure seems to me there should be a cigarette lighter.

BTW, the use it and lose it cover for the power adaptor in the center of the dash is total cheese.

well the center power adapter with plug cover is not an lighter housing, so when you plug in a lighter it does nothing and will not hold in it. So it is useless for a lighter but fine for radar detectors etc. The armrest power adapter I have not tried, but I dont think they would want a lighter in your compartment area, fire etc. But I would unplug the armrest power , so that i MIGHT attach the one that came with kit to center console area, maybe right on the side of small cup holder on right side. The kit is from ford/dealer, He did say there were two so he maybe ordering the other one, but I think the other one, is just an ashtray without lighter, who Knows but they definitely cheesed on this one.

Matches-never could strike and light up without burning something.

Lighter-too hard to keep up with.

I'm kinda glad it didn't come equipped with a lighter.....makes it easier to keep the car smoke free.

Makes more sense to have a lighter adapter in the arm rest console than it does to have a power outlet there, IMO.

I do smoke also. But not to tell you how to live your life - but man listen to me. I have always smoked in all of my cars. So this one I decided I would give it a try and not smoke in it. IT'S NOT THAT HARD. And let me tell you, with the new rear window design - good luck trying to vacuum out the ashes that ALWAYS end up back there.

Give it a try - even if you drive long trips - stop and pull over for a smoke. I've had mine for 3 months now without smoking in it - and everyday I get in it it still seems like it's brand new.

LOL..

The poor guy asked how to install the lighter NOT if he should smoke in the car NOR did he ask if he should quit or not. -Way off topic.

Sodaman,

Wish I could help. Good luck with it though.

True. But hey, how boring would these forums be if it was simply "Ask" "Answer".

Anyway - Sorry Sodaman - didn't mean to preach, I don't have an answer for ya either.

I quit smoking because I hated the smell in my car, and now, 5 years later can't stand the smell of people that do smoke, sorry guys.

Dan, I have not seen the kit but did you get the correct one? I heard that the one for the Mustang fit into the cup holder closest to the shifter and combined both the ashtray and lighter so no drilling should be required. It gets wired underneath to the same harness that feeds power to the power point plug in the center console.

Just remember, this is what I heard, I have not seen one.

Well thanks for the tips guys and gals. I don't smoke so you dont have to worry about that. But i do like having one in case I let someone else smoke, and I just like to have things, call them toys whatever. If it can be added , I add. I just ordered it, to have it, not to smoke, I figured It could be wired like you said to wire already existing underneath center console. Ashtray kit might be wrong, I think the accessory guy is ordering me another one. But there are no holes for a new lighter to go into. Unless what your saying adrenalin is that the ashtray and lighter are one piece. If you can find out more about this or point me to the right person or place that would be great. As you know most of the people at these dealers are yet to learn much about these new beasts. I had to tell them about the global window etc. So I am sure it could be wired but the one kit they had for me, would need a hole to put it into. And I would rather not put it into the closed center console or in the upper power plug area as I might add the start engine button there later.

I ordered the ash cup and just got it today ,....not to smoke in but to put small change in .I wanted that rather than pulling up the armrest to put the coins in .
There are 2 types to order one is just the ash cup the other is ash cup and lighter .
there was no gaskets with mine just straight drop in to the console .

Well replace it, no one is forcing you to keep it.
