Amplifier Question
Amplifier Question
Ok, before I get flamed, I did a search and didn't find the answer to my question. I have the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 headunit with aftermarket front door and rear speakers. The door subs are factory. I want to run more power to all of the speakers, including the door subs. What kind of amplifier do I need? Do I need a 6 channel and if so how many watts do you suggest? The AVIC has 3 preamp outputs.
6 channel would be the way to go, but the factory subs would have to be rewired. I can only think of a few 6 channel amps that have 1 0hm stability. I'd suggest a killer 4 channel and leave the rears on deck power. Right now, Sounddomain has refurbed Infinity 6 channel amps for $139. I bought one, and it's VERY nice. Roughly 55x4 and 100x2 at 4 ohm. Or, if you want to spend more, we can get crazy if you'd like.
Power will depend on what speakers you have, and how loud you like to listen. What did you replace the front/rear with?

I used Pioneer for the fronts and rears. The rears are 4 way and the fronts are 3 way. How do I run the wire into the door from the amp? There is nothing there but a big black tubing to run all the wires from the doors to the inside of the car. Do I splice into this?

man that's a great price! Any deals on something a little less extravegant? My amp blew and I'm currently only worried about powering a 12" sub. Sorry to hijack this thread
Same as what I'm running to my sub. I'm running a single JL 12w3d4 (13 years old) in the Scosche box.

I ended up going with the first one. It seemed like a good investment. I am also looking at the 6810cs speakers. How do you feel they would work out in the stang? Crutchfield has them for 99 a pair shipped and after 20 dollars off teh total order 180 for a 4 speakers eems like a fair deal.
Oh, and will this amp handle 2ohm loads?
The amp handles 2 ohm with no issues, at least mine does. Skip the Infinity 6x8's, they're terrible. I've been recommending Cadence recently due to price/performance.

Or, Pioneer coax's are real nice, but work better on lower power. Kicker's coaxes work very well with decent power, and the highs aren't shrill enough to break glass (like the Infinity's).
