OK, Ive done this many years ago and I'm OK will installing easy stuff. BUT, if I order all the things necessary from some place like Crutchfields, how hard would a complete install be?? (head unit, comp speakers front/rear, amp, sub, and sub box). This would be to replace base unit/speakers??

Thanks........

Especially from Crutchfield, they'll send you a "Master Sheet" that tells step-by-step how to do everything, and even includes proper tool sizes.

Basically, it'll be simple. If you have any questions, just post and we'll step you through.

Thanks, I'm kind of getting overwhelmed by all the info, on this site and at Crutchfield. The installer wants about $85/hour, and he said it was a 4hr job, = $340 for install??? Might be worth it, might not??

OK, so my first question is this: I get one 5 channel amp in the trunk, this feeds the 4 speakers and the sub, correct? Then what happens with the wires? Do they go head unit, amp, speakers? But if the amp is in the trunk, how do I use the factory speaker wiring? Or does the connection between the amp/head unit take care of this?

Thanks, I'm looking at a Kenwood head unit, Infinity 6x8 components for the front, Infinity 6x8 in the rear deck, Infinity Perfect 12.1d sub (Scoche Box), and a Alpine 5 ch sub.......

How about a shop manual or some other source of instructions for taking the dash apart? Has anyone found a good source of info?

Quite a few of these are on various sites ( including this one ). Just do a search..
Will put one per post because of the size and the board's attachment limitation

Two things come to mind...
First: Why would you want to spend that much money and use the factory wiring?
Second: If you are asking those kind of questions about basic things, might be best to pay the $85 per hour rather than take a chance on frying an expensive piece of equipment. Not saying that to be an hiney, just being truthful. If you don't know how to get the audio signal from the head unit to the amp, you just might be better off paying someone.

I guess it would depend on the equipment you are getting. If you have something like I have you have front, rear and, sub preouts. Thats 3 sets of RCA type cables that would run from your deck to the amp. Then I imagine you'd have to run new wiring from the amp to the individual speakers. Should be very easy just time comsuming.

I think only paying 340 dollars for a complete install (HU, subs, amp, speakers) is a good deal. But I would try and get a total in writing first so that the techs don't drag their feet on the install and try and get an extra $85/hour from you. I would expect more if you don't have your own sub box and they have to build one.

Since you have a GT you likely will want to keep the door subs which requires an additional harness from crutchfield. Also Crutchfield sells install cards (which I have never used but seems like a good idea).

Well thanks for the word, Dave.

Actually I just went and talked the the installer today, since doc talked me out of doing the work myself, and he said he would do the whole thing for $150. SWEET!! And, he might give me a really good deal on a gently used amp and sub. So I feel lucky now, only spending about $600 at Crutchfields, and about another $350 at the installer (subs, amp, installation). Not bad for around $1000!!!!!

$150 isnt bad for the total install.. especially if that includes the cost of wiring etc. I dont imagine it will though =( This car is one of the easiest Ive ever worked on. I installed my system myself and can say its pretty easy. I can have the dash apart and a radio swaped and back together in about 30 minutes, and it wouldnt take much longer to run the wiring for the sub now that I know exactly what to do. So.. good price imo.

Killer pricing. Heck, I have no fear of ripping out the interior and doing an install on my vehicle. But if I got offered a price that low, I would not even think twice about letting someone else do it

I've always installed my own systems myself, but I learned from my older brother and cousin while growing up. Now that I'm older, I don't like doing it as much, but I still install it myself because I know how I treat my stuff.
