Aftermarket Stereo - advice

Guys and gals,
I need advice.
I am tired of dealing with the PIE adapter crap on my Shakeme500.
Can you guys and gals give some ideas on aftermarket decks that will work with the factory subs, accept my IPOD and sound as good or better than the Shaker 500?

Thanks in advance.
Jesse

I went with the DUAL XDVD8281 from BestBuy, just installed it yesterday. The sound quality is way better than the Shaker500 and it has nice features like DVD video, mp3 / wma compatability.

Looks nice in the dash and it comes with a standard external audio-in which can be upgraded to an iPod-adapter.

On either, is it difficult to utilize the Shaker 500 amps?

If your replaceing the stero, why do you want to use the little shaker amps? I would get some after market ones, since your going for a after market radio.

Initial investment.
If I can get a head unit that will work with the existing stock system then it will keep me happy for the time being. As time goes on and my financial director (wife) allows; amps speakers, etc can be replaced to complement the new head unit.
I just want my IPOD to work without shorting out the car's computer.....

The shaker 500 door woofers are powered by two small amps in the driver side footwell. I don't know how the input wires are organized, but I do know that the input signal is just a normal line-level signal (I tapped into them for my trunk sub amp). So what that means is that someone probably makes/sells a wiring harness for aftermarket amps to interface with the stock subwoofers & other speakers. And if they don't OR you want to save money, if your aftermarket head unit has L/R subwoofer outputs, you can send those directly to the inputs of the factory amps. (If it has a mono-sub output, just split it into two..)

There's a thread somewhere here that specifies which wires going into the factory door woofer amps are which.
