ACCORDION STYLE SHIFT BOOT

Anyone tried an old style accordion shift boot made from rubber with the chrome Hurst shifter? Just had the idea, had one in my Mach 1 in 2003, but it was a round one and this one needs to be square. If anyone has tried it, which one fits?

Holy smokes Batman I was just about to start a thread on this. Had a pleated boot in my 77 Vette, and imo looks way better.

Well, Hurst makes this piece:

I've seen it at Pep Boys, Discount/Advance Auto Part, etc. Of course the most important thing when it comes to this mod is the dimensions of the thing when compared to the rectangular opening for the shifter in the console. Also, maybe a minor point, is how tall the boot is. If you were to look at the shifter in the car and compare the distance from the console top to the bottom of the ****, the rubber boot will be too tall and cover the chrome on the Hurst shifter. Just throwing ideas out there. A long time ago, stangnut and I were on a mission to find such a piece for our cars at the MCA 35th Anniversary in Birmingham, but never found anything that would fit the opening perfectly or even close.

The rubber accordian is definatly Old School looking... I have mixed feelings about one of these in an S197 car, I'd like to see one installed.

Thats a good point about the boot height, hadnt thought of the obvious. I just put the MGW Composite Race **** w/ the pony logo on, love that thing, so if I cant do the boot thing at least that really dresses up the interior.

I'm thinking it would fit UNDER the console and the top chrome bezel would screw to it thru the console with it's mounting screws. If so, it would pull it down shorter, and leave the Hurst logo exposed more. Don't know, I may have to try to hunt one locally and give it a try. I was just hoping someone else had had the same idea and had given it a whirl.
