6.5" Components in S197 Front Door

I have a 2006 Mustang Coupe w/ Shaker 500 speaker setup. I'd like to know if 6.5" components will fit in the front door. I took it to a car audio shop here and they said that they would only be able to fit 5.25" components.

I put 6.5" components in the lower opening, and 5.25" components in the upper opening. I do not believe that a 6.5 would fit in the upper without a lot of fabrication.

6.5 will fit, but you can't have any protrusion beyond what the factory speakers have or you'll hit the door panel. Aluminum plate is your friend making the adapter. I had to do exactly the same in my new STm and also in a new Taurus, so it must be Ford's new way of doing things.

Crutchfield is saying that we have 6x8" in front and back. They have some alpine 6.5s that include a mounting bracket. However it notes that the separate tweeters need to be custom installed.

I work as an installer. All the component adapters I have seen only fit component 5 1/4 components in them. You might be able to modify it and get a 6 1/2 to fit though. Just have to mount the tweeter somewhere else.
