2013 Seat Covers on 05-09?

Have posted in other forums, but posting here also to hopefully generate discussions/share thoughts.

Bottomline Up Front (BLUF): Can this be done using same 2006 Seat cushions? Here's a pic of my 2006 seats and a 2013 seat I saw at a recent car show (owner may be here also?). I took a closer look in person, and dang, it appears that the 2013 seat covers could fit over my 2006 seat cushions. A quick glance, it appears the seats are the same design, just different covers...thoughts? I mean I have seen entire seat retrofit, but I was just looking at the covers. Note, the pics are not exactly taken at the same angle, height or distance. They are for comparison...

Lots of Seat Info in This Thread Of Gen One Vs Gen Two Seats!

I Would Say At The very Least The Cover & Foam Will Have To Match!

Just Waking Up From a Nap! So Bear With Me!

The VS Pdf's on Post 8 Should Be Helpful!

KC, thanks for your information. Ha, your nap was productive and your pdf helped me look at an angle I was not thinking: Comparing the cushion's or foam's parts numbers. I went to a Ford's Parts Online Store and looked for seat foam cushion part numbers for both 2006 and 2013. I looked at both, Driver and Pax and both, bottom cushion foams and top cushion foams. Here's what I found out: That, at least when I compared 2006 and 2013 seat cushion foams the Part # where the same. Meaning, that while the seat covers are different, both models shared the same part numbers when it came to the cushion foams. Which get's to my basic question: Can I fit a 2013 seat covers on to a 2006 seat...the answer appears to be..YES!

So what is this all about? The seat cover design for 2013 and I suspect 2014 models gives me the flexibility to order something similar in design from newer models (see pic). Granted, the seat cover in that pic would not fit the 2006, but I am going after the design, which I think I can get based on the fact that the 2013/2014 seats have that "winglet" designs.

Again, thanks for all your help. Now, in the hunt for seat covers....

Great question, after 18 yrs of ownership, I wanted to change up the all black interior and add a bit of color. Here's what I have done thus far, and I am aiming for a bit of red on the seats...not a whole lot of red, but just a bit....

The Covers Are in Such great Shape Perhaps Have a Good Upholstory Shop Add Some Contrasting Piping Like The Doors or An Insert Change on Certain Panels! I Noticed You Looking the Richmond Auto Upholstory Link Recently I Listed Perhaps a SPECIAL Order To Them For Covers??? They Should Also Know The In's & Outs of The Interchangability. Could Get Red Thread As Well!

As long as the seat foam material is the same as 2005-09, I don't see why they wouldn't fit either...

that is the big question -- they look almost identical, but it looks like the side bolsters might be a little beafier on the later model, hard to say for sure ... I thought the "base" (non-Recaro) seats were exactly the same, but looking at the pics I am not sure any more

if you are having an upholstery shop change the covers, they should be able to also add a little foam if needed to make the covers fit tight

I can't be sure either, John! I suppose the only way to find out for certain is taking the covers completely off both and then do a side by side comparison, if he is able...

Geez, I can't believe the cushions are the same. My butt clearly liked the softer cushiony feel of our old 2007 GT/ CS vs the 'hard as a rock' 2014 cushions. When I first bought the '14 I wanted to make sure the driver's seat wasn't defective or something, but the passenger seat was exactly the same hardness and was barely used with 8,800 miles on the car. It's the least favorite part of my car.

Lots of great comments. Are the cushions the same? I have never taken apart the seats on either model. The pics I took of the later model, I took during a car show. I actually spent some time measuring with my "eyeballs" both seats and dang, do they look as if they are exact. The one thing I noticed was that in the later model, the "wing" aspect of the cover gives the optical illusion that the "side bolsters" are a bit beefier. In person, they look about the same once you realize the "wing" illusion. All of this, non-exact of course, just all via observation. I will continue to search the internet to see if someone has done the cover swap and report here. I am willing to experiment if I find a cheap cover on Ebay for example to do a comparison. Or just do nothing and take it to an upholstery shop in the long run. Decisions, decisions....

I Had Went Through a Similar Situation awhile Back With a Short Time Member Who Posted a bit in A Thread & Then Most Went To PM'S Which Got Deleted on My Side. To The Best of My Fuzzy Recollection The Bottoms are an Easy Deal and The Cover Should Work. Now on the Uppers at The Very Least You Will Need Matching Foam to Cover. Then The Seat Backs on The Early Car May Not Play Well With The Later Foams and The Later Back Would Be Needed. That's Just What I Seem To Recall.

This is The Member & Perhaps He Still Recalls it Better. He Had A Set of Later Model Seats in Hand! Might PM Him!
