Is the 2010 auto shifter a direct replacement for the 05-09?
Just wondering if the auto shifter from the 2010 GT's will work with an 05-09? I like the look much better so I was wondering if I could just swap them?
I didn't see anyone respond to this thread. I have an 07 and the rubber/plastic slider self distracted. Ford says can't fix. Need to replace whole shifter.

Are you referring to the rubber sliding part in front of the shifter coming loose? My car has this problem and was wondering if it could be fixed or not. I need to take the console apart to see what it looks like.
I responded elsewhere but the answer is no. You have to change to the 2010+ shifter mechanism because the shift handle now fits only on a small diameter round shaft. The bezel and trim will not fit at all because they are longer towards the rear of the console. However the 05-09 PRND321 indicator bezel will install on the base plate of the 2010+ shifter mechanism as it was only modified with the round shifter shaft in place of the square one.

This can be fixed. Just remove the console. The shifter indicator bezel just snaps out of the shifter base. Once removed the whole assembly snaps apart into two halves. You can then reset the sliding blind back into the grooves they slide in and snap the whole thing back together.

Baloney! Read the post above. It usually just comes out of the track and needs to be taken apart and reset. It all snaps together and easily comes apart. If the sliding blind is actually torn then consider replacing it with a boot that sits within the slide area or find a blind in a salvage car.
Although this is a 2010-12 style bezel, the 2005-09 assembles exactly the same.

To me it looks awkwardly too tall and the boot is very bulky. I am sure they designed some sort of shift **** that has a base that slides over the large square factory shift lever shaft which requires this **** to sit on top of it making it much higher than stock. The bulk of the boot indicates to me they may have left the indicator bezel in place when it looks best to remove it so the boot can sink into the opening like a manual transmission car does. It's also not worth $195.

ive seen a couple guys that broke that slider pc, not sure how, but ya, you cant get that part. new or used shifter is the fix if its broke. a couple guys glued it back together
ive seen a couple guys install the 10+ auto shifters in the 05-09. its not a exact install but it can be done. theres quite a bit of adjustment in the shift cable to work with. heres one example i found http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...y-06-done.html
that machII shifter is a replacement a guy made a few years ago. the shifter pushes down to shift it,theres no indicator and the od buttom is under the boot, but i dont think he is still selling them. i know a couple guys that bought them and really like them though. i never really liked the look of a boot going right to the ball, but i really like the look of the adapters between the boots and the *****. jmo

2010 Automatic Shifter Installed in a 2005-2009 Mustang
I did not like the looks of the 2005-2009 automatic transmission shifter, so I took the idea of one of the members here and modified and installed a 2010 shifter in my 2006 mustang. $70 for the used 2010 junk yard shifter, $35 for the leather boot, and $265 for the Hurst shifter handle. The center console and the top center console had to be trimmed for fitment, and I used a 3 inch drum sander to contour the shifter bezel to clear the cup holder. The Hurst shifter came with a new remote mount Overdrive On/Off button, and I mounted that on the side of the top center console cover. The only downside to using the leather boot is that there is no longer a PRNDL indicator, but that doesn't bother me. If someone is on a budget, the swap from a 2005-2009 shifter to a 2010 shifter would be pretty cheap to do by just using the factory 2010 shift **** and trimming the center console.
