I've just got an OEM mirror (auto dimming/compass). it is a take-off from a 2007 GT. given the fact mine is 2006, how wiring can be? where to get a power source?

 

I bet it might already be there under the dome light cover

 

I got one from a Dodge Dakota and just got the power from the cigarette/power outlet. Hard wired it and ran the wires up the A pilar

 

any idea on how to get this cover out?

 

Mine just pulls down. Held in by clips

 

i pulled out the dome; nothing to fit the plug i got with the mirror.
i had custom wire it to lamps 12v power wires; two to power and the third to ground.
now, mirror button light works, compass works but, dimmer doesn't!
any idea?

The 2007 mustang mirror has three wires to connect. One goes to power,one goes to ground,and one is hooked up to the reverse shifter so the system returns to normal when backing up.
The 2006 mustangs did not have the wiring for this type of mirror. When I have a chance I will look at electrical color combo of the wires.

The wiring for the 2007 Mustangs are as follows.
1) VT Acc.power 2) Bk ground 3) Wh-Lg EC mirror rev

There is power in the dome light cover. Taking it off is easy but scary. The clips are in the sides facing the doors. Tuck your fingers under the panels and headliner and give it a firm constant pull. You might feel like you are going to cut the tip of your fingers off, but you wont, the cover will just pop off. Use a test light to find a hot, I would be lieing to you if I tell you I remeber which one it was, but if I had to guess, I would tell you it is definitely not the black one.

 

I have the how to on the wiring on saved on my computer but cant get to it right now if you cant find it I'll look for it. Its alink off another mustang site BUt be careful when you take off the old mirror lots of guys break windshield others have no problem

 

in my case, i have to leave the third one unwired, right?

 

i have unwired the white wire; it works!!
