Cut your stock one down to the length that you want and reattach the little ball at the top. It's free!

After doing this to my Lightning, I was kicking myself for buying the $20 shorty for the Mustang. Plus, you can pick the exact height you want.
I got one for my Ranger here:

I'd go with either the polished or black-o-ring.
EDIT: Here's a shot of the truck with shorty antenna, sorry its so dirty...

Remove the stock antenna. Pull the ball off. Cut the antenna to the desired length. Glue the ball back on. No cost, not hard.

I cut mine down to 12". After you cut the antenna take a look at the part the ball use to sit on. I used a grinder and made the cut end look like the stock end. Then hammered the ball back on. No glue and 10,000 km later it is still holding on. No difference in reception and looks a lot better.
I am gonna do mine today. I found this article yesterday, great description of how to do it. Hope it helps you as well.

I got one of them 6" shorty antennas that claimed it would keep my reception like stock but it definately didn't. Even signals that did come in without static did not sound clear and were hollow.
I'm not too keen on cutting up the stock antenna.

That's a great link, porkster!
I knew there was an ideal length to cut it down to, but it's been WAY too long ago since the Navy taught me that.
EVERYONE who has or is going to cut their antenna needs to read that!
In fact, I think I need to go shorten mine a little.
EDIT: One thing the article didn't mention was to put some type of plastic bag around the end and it'll catch the ball so you don't lose it.
