I saw this on ebay. I hope this isn't where the factory puts the wheel weights.

I take it you are just referring to the placement of the wheel weights. Well, yes that is where they are installed, on the outside. I know, the bunch of us that want our wheels to last as long as possible do not want weights installed on the outside, but for the wheel to be balanced properly they need to do this. There are several options available but I have never seen factory rims have weights installed on the inside of the rim.

 

Thanks for the reply. That's too bad about the placement. I've found that the first time you change tires the weights have to be moved and thus you have scratches on the rims. Other aftermarket wheels that I bought had i had them placed on the inside lip.
Tire balances up fine and no problem with marking the wheel lip surface.

 

I actually tried to have the weights on my wheels left off, but was told the factory would not do that. I will try to have them installed on the inner portion of the rim. My Miata after-market wheels had the weights installed there, and they balanced just fine.

 

Not sure how good it is, but there's a product out there that allows the wheels to be balanced w/o the weights. It's some kind of stuff put inside the tire. It may only be for LARGE tires as a buddy of mine has it on his lifted 4x4 with 33 or 36" tires.

A couple years ago I was having trouble balancing lightning rims on my lowered F150. NO ONE could do it properly with weights on the inside and I refused to let the chrome get marred with them on the outside. After two different, time wasting attempts I was about to give up, then researched the subject and found the Hunter info. Located one in my area, had it done and voila.......perfect balancing. For a price though.....the new rims, as you see, are weight free but cost $80.00 for the job. You get what you pay for I guess. Just an FYI,

I used to do tires for Pep Boys, You can balance a tire with stick on weights on the inside of the rim. Most places can do it. The machine tells you exactly how to set it up. Pretty much idiot proof. I know we didn't charge any more for it, you should be able to just go in and pay for a life-time rotate and balance and request to have them balanced that way.
