What is my Mustang worth?

Hey guys, I'm thinking of selling my manual 2005 V6 Mustang (in order to buy a 2010 Shelby!!!) and I was wondering how much I could get for my car. Carmax says $5000, but I say that is too low, but maybe I am way off. That's why I need your input. I have done a lot of exterior mods to it, including: GT/CS front and rear bumpers, dual exhaust with GT take-off mufflers, Cervini front grill with pony emblem, Powered by Ford badges, 18" MB Motorsport Weapon rims, window tint, Shelby lower fog light kit, GT500 pedals, and Panasonic stereo/iPod connector with bluetooth stereo. The car has 120k on it (I drive 100 miles a day to and from work) but I would say that 95% of those miles were done at 75 mph in 5th gear at 2200 rpm on the highway. I have done no performance mods at all and the engine runs great. I did have to replace the rear differential and crankshaft at 70,000 miles (the dreaded axle whine struck) and I slid into the back of a truck when I was going 5 mph in the rain and had to replace the front bumper, grill, radiator and hood (no structural damage). I think I should be able to get between $8000 and $9000 for the car. Please let me know what you think.

High miles never helps

Carmax is actually a good price for the miles.
The miles are what is killing the price.
Top dollar on a used car lot wouldn't even be $9K.
Top loan value is probably a little over $8K
You probably can get over $6K in a private sale.
My personal opinion is ask $7500 and pray for somebody that loves a nice car with high miles.

Agreed. Maybe $5,500-$6,000 would be more fair. But you are close to double the "average" mileage of 15,000 miles per year, and it has paintwork.

I don't know what options you have on the car, but those will affect the value significantly. go to www.kbb.com and put in your car's info and it will tell you what your trade in value would be. I guessed you had the V6 Premium and filled in the options for that accordingly which gives you a value of $6150 in excellent condition. Check out the site to see. Considering your car's history, it's likely not going to help convince Carmax to change their mind, but it gives you an idea.

BTW, what was the axle whine issue you had? I just had something similar happen on my 06 GT, where all the bearings went bad.

And why was the crankshaft replaced?

It looks like you have some relatively tasteful/neutral mods.....as the more mods one has usually makes it more difficult to sell. Car looks very nice....but I would agree what is pulling the price down is the higher than average mileage.

GLWS and I hope you get the Shelby!

Thanks guys, that gives me a good idea. I'm in no hurry to sell (probably won't pull the trigger on the Shelby until next fall) so I think I'll advertise it high (~$8000) and see if there are any takers. If I then sell it in the $7500-$7000 range I'll be happy. I'm not really driving it that much now since I had to buy a 4-door to haul around 3 kids, so the high miles may be less of a factor a year from now when other 05's are closer to mine in mileage.

Good luck with it

As far as the miles still being a factor, I don't think yours will be worth any more next year, the depreciation on the other 05's will just catch up with yours. But when people look at yours relative to other 05's, the miles will stand out less in their minds

Is the cars title clean?

Could you send me some better pics of the car? Exterior and interior?

And a complete list of whats "wrong" with it + whats to brag about. Anything from tiny dents to not good stuff.

I could be very interested in the car at the right price. I am not in a hurry, and you are also not in a hurry. Which is perfect for me, as i need time to check it out properly, as i am looking to find a car perfect for me to actually travel over from Norway to check out and bring it home. I am looking at 1 week in the states tops, and the dealers i have spoken with just does not give me all the info i need, and cars usually gets sold before i can find a decent priced airfare and get to arrange shipping and Export customs ++.

For my sake, i am looking at everything from 1 month to 5 before i Get a car, but if you are keeping it for that long, we could exchange info on email and see if your stang is the one or not.
