Question What hardware for mounting front license plate?

I know this isn't a modification question but wasn't sure where else to post the question...

What kind of hardware is used to mount the front license plate? I see two little dimples in the plastic bumper cover for what I believe is where you drill the holes through the plastic. Are there threaded holes underneath the plastic cover?

Thanks for any info

No threaded holes they just drill pilot holes and put in large self tapping screws. I put mine on below the bumper. I didn't want to drill.

I still need to get a better picture. No drilling, just soft heavy duty velcro straps from a plastic plate bracket to the black plastic on the car (with a little felt behind it). Solid even over 100mph.

Can you show us pictures of that on your car and maybe from underneath as well? The guy on Ebay does not have any posted for some reason. Thx...

Do you have a link to the auction or that vendor? That is exactly what I was going to ask someone to custom fabricate for me!

Thanks, scramblr! It would be nice to see pictures of this bracket on the car.

For anyone who wants one of these for their 2007 GT/CS, it does not appear to fit properly. I felt around where the mounting arms would go underneath the cover, and the GT/CS bumper is not thick enough in that area.

That might not be an issue as I don't think too many of the GT/CS will sell. It's sad when Hertz gets a better car than what Ford decides to call a SE.

In my opinion, it will sell to those looking for style changes. Also, anyone who wants to change out their front bumper fascia, like I was considering, would run into the same issue.

My dealer had already installed the front license plate when I picked the car up. He used epoxy resin and I've never had any problems so far, the plate is stuck on very strong. Of course, should I need to replace the bumper, I will have to find a way to either remove and reuse the existing plate or order a new one.
For those who don't plan on ever changing the front bumper (unless needed after an accident) or installing stripes on it, I recommend this option.

I got mine in the mail today and put them on a Mustang GT on a dealership lot. I lined the brackets up with the indents for the plate screws behind the holes in the brackets.

The only thing about which I am not certain is if it will stay positioned properly at highway driving speeds. I've e-mailed the seller to get their comments. They are nicely made

Hi all,

I bought a bunch of parts from Home Depot, spent about $15 (since I bought stainless steel bolts/nuts, it drove the price up). I drilled no holes in my bumper or any part of the front fascia. The mount works similar to the one posted above, but is MUCH better mounted/secure, and of course the plate is on the proper angle.

Anyway... My plate is mounted EXACTLY where it would be in stock form, and has passed the highway speed test 156km/h - 100miles/h.

Here's some pictures:

Would you describe or post pictures of what makes it better mounted? Thanks!

Hi Tony,

I decided to post a how-to, here's the thread.

The reason I think it mounts better, is it works in a clamp fashion much like the one you posted. However it is also bent it such a fashion that it clamps onto the back plastic lower grille insert.
