I took my covers off and took them to the local powder coater. I'm having a tough time deciding what color to paint them. My car is torch red. and I have the Ford Plenum Cover. I thought about painting it red, but I thought it might be too much red. I thought about black. They have a silver looking color. I even thought about gold like the ones from the 60s.

I'd love to see some pictures if you've allready done yours.

BTW, the powder coaters in our area are asking $200+tax. I think that is a bit much. For $249 I can get a set fo Ford Racing valve covers from CJ pony parts and sell my used ones on Ebay.

I had mine powder coated a chrome finish. (free, I got tha hook up)

I would say about 2 hours to R&R the covers, and a sore back from leaning over. An extra hand helps to pull wires back when putting them on and off.
Removing the battery I think makes it somewhat easier.

That look great Stoenr! I'm ordering some fuel rail covers from Midwest, powder coating would match up nice with the engine and fuel rail covers.

Thanks for the pictures guys. Powder coating locally is way too expensive. I can buy them for $199 shipped from ebay but they are only available in blue or black. Then I could sell mine and recoup some of the cost making it more cost effective.

I decided to just paint them for now . I decided to go with gold since it's a bit retro. I'll post pictures when I'm done.

After removing the valve covers and cleaning them, I primed them with 3 coats of etching engine primer, followed by 4 coats of gold valve cover paint. I then attached the Ford Racing decals and followed with 4 coats of clearcoat engine enamel.

I hope they last and don't chip. I wrapped them in a towel as I installed them but still managed to get a small but barely noticeable marr on each. Let me know what you think.

Yes, I've been thinking about it. I thought I could remove the pony to paint the plenum cover and then glue it back, but I'm not sure how I would keep the ribs painted chrome. I don't know whether to mask them with thin tape and paint over them, or paint the entire cover and then use a hard roller to paint the ribs. If anyone has any suggestions...

I'm also trying to get this decal made.

I'd mask the Pony and paint the whole thing. Then paint the ribs. That's what some guys were doing before stores started painting these.

odiaz, those covers look fantastick. Almost makes me want to redo mine from blue to gold....almost.
Also I made some engine emblems like the one you are looking for, the particulars and materials can be found here.

I have had them on for almost a year now and they still look good.

Here's mine....cost me $50 at the local powder coater...Decals look the same as the day I put them on...I was concerned they may be affected by the heat, but so far they're good to go.
