tpms sensor alternatives

bought a nice set of bbs replica wheels and tires for my 08 gt, but no tpms, found some sensors on ebay. i thought about buying them and installing into the spare tire, set the pressure and forget about it. but will i need all 4, how about 1,2, or 4? how would i program all of them? thanks.

I have seen in an old thread somewhere where a guy took all 4 and placed them in a PVC pipe under the correct pressure with seals on each end. And placed it under the decklid in the trunk. This kept the 4 monitors close to the car and under pressure. Seemed cool to me.

there are mixed opinions on whether or not that works....however when i first changed my wheels i changed them to a set that didnt have the tpms in them, and whenever i would park near my garage where my old wheels with the tpms sensors still in them were, my light would never go on....however when i would park away from my garage my light would come on the next time i started the car.......So there must be some validity to the "pipe bomb" method

I like that. The "pipe bomb" method. Just don't get pulled over and searched by the police. You could end up at Gitmo.

Why not just install the 4 sensors where they belong and get the $15 training tool and have them acutally work? Really, this TPMS system is not that hard.

here's another tried and true method:
1. start car
2. extend index finger
3. press reset button

Takes about 1 second, works every time, and is free.

that was me, i did that in my buddy's lexus. and it worked great. i put it in one of the compartments in his trunk so that the car would recognize the sensors. it was a hybrid model, so the hybrid battery is also in the trunk in one of the compartments, so the trunk gets warm when that battery heats up a little bit and he dont have to worry about the cold weather lowering the air pressure cause its somewhat near that battery

the pipe thing worked great no complaints yet after almost 2yrs. the reason your light came on when you parked away from those wheels are because your car no longer saw a signal from those sensors, atleast with the pipe thing its in your car and you dont have to worry about when your light comes on. simple tire pressure guage to check pressure now and again will do just fine.

they still work, they are just not mounted in the wheel.
