Summer Tire Sizes that Work - Complete List

In my quest for finding the perfect rims, finding the perfect tires to match is also quite the task, especially if you are looking to do a staggered set up. As I have been researching, I've kept a list of what sizes and tires will work, and how far apart the heights are for the fronts vs. rears, and how much of a height difference it is from stock. Many people don't take note of this...some tire choices can give you an overall height difference of over 1" for the front vs. the rears or vs. stock, thus throwing off both driving dynamics, appearance and speedo/odo calibration (if you have a tuner, you can fix this).

Please keep in mind I am using the 18" Fanblades as a comparison for stock. Also, when I say "same", it might be off by a very small amount, almost neglegable.

My hope is that this will become a sticky and as sizes and tires are added, I can make this a 'living' list. Also, as I have time, I can calculate how much off the heights are vs. other Ford OEM rims/tires - I just need people to post what their OEM tire size is and I can look up the overall diameter/height.

So...hope this helps at least someone. If you have formatting suggestions, let me know. If there was a way to do a chart in the post, that would be helpful! I forget my HTML coding...let me know what you think.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Stock tire height:
18" Fanblade w/BFG TA KDWS 235/50/18: 27.2"

**Please note*** There are other tire sizes available in 19" and 20", however their overall diameter is over 2-3"+ difference either vs. stock or front vs. rear, so I did not include them. I can, if people would like. If you try to stay close to stock tire height, but increase your rim size, naturally your tire sidwall amount will decrease...it's a tradeoff!

NB: Overall diameter between manufacturer's for the same size tire can vary by +-0.2" or so. For the most part, I tired to stick to using one manufacturer for consistency sake.

19" Tires:

1. 245/40/19 (26.8") with 285/35/19 (26.7"). 0.1" front vs. rear. -0.5" vs. stock 18" fanblades. Available in: BFG TA KDW, Falken FK452, Goodyear F1 GS-D3, Goodyear F1 GS-2, Pirelli PZero Corsa, Nitto Invo.

2. 255/40/19 (27.1") with 285/35/19 (26.6"). 0.5" front vs. rear. -0.7" vs. stock 18" fanblades. Available in: Falken FK452, Goodyear F1 GS-D3, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, Pirelli PZero Rosso, Pirelli PZero System, Yokohama AVS Sport, Dunlop SP9000.

3. 245/40/19 (26.8") with 295/35/19 (27"). 0.2" front vs. rear. -0.4" vs. stock 18" fanblades. Available in: BFG TA KDW.

4. 245/40/19 (26.7") with 275/35/19 (26.6"). 0.1" front vs. rear. -0.6" vs. stock 18" fanblades. Available in: Michelin Pilot Sport, Goodyear F1 GS-D3, BFG TA KDW.

20" Tires:

1. 245/40/20 (27.7") with 285/30/20 (26.7"). 1" front vs. rear. +-0.5" vs. stock 18" fanblades. Available in: BFG TA KDW (new tread), Falken FK452.

2. 255/35/20 (27") with 285/30/20 (26.7"). 0.3" front vs. rear. -0.5" vs. stock 18" fanblades. Available in: Pirelli PZero, Pirelli PZero Rosso, Pirelli PZero System, Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, Dunlop SP9000, BFG TA KDW (new tread), Falken FK452, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2.

3. 245/35/20 (26.8") with 285/30/20 (26.7"). 0.1" front vs. rear. -0.5" vs. stock 18" fanblades. Available in: Pirelli PZero, Dunlop Sport Maxx, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2, BFG TA KDW (new tread), Falken FK452.

4. 295/45/20 is available, but at an overall diameter of 30.5" which is tall. 295/40/20 is also tall, at 29.3". There are no 295/35/20.

Just an FYI....You can run up to 275's up front. With the setups you listed above, you are favoring understeer.

No problem, just let me know and I can add more combinations.

My general knowledge base for Mustangs and staggered set ups is that more people stick to 245-255 up front. You are right about understeer, generally not something I think too much about in this car...

Of course, I can also add combinations for people who want to run the same sizes all around, i.e. 255 or 275s. It'll depend of course on how wide of a tire you do as well...I don't really think you'd want to run more then a 255 on an 8" wide rim, which is sometimes the size for fronts on staggered set ups. Correct me if I'm wrong...

If this isn't helpful...well, we can forget this whole thread!

Don't forget this tried and true 18" set up:
(BFG KDW) 255/45 front and 285/40 rear.
If I remember, they are VERY close to stock height.

Here is what I am about to buy for my Roush 18X10's:

Bridgestone RE050A Pole Positions 275/40/17 all around. I can't remember the diameter, but believe it is 26.5".

You might have some trouble getting those 17s on an 18" wheel!

There are 345/25/20's and 345/30/19's that are exactly the same diameter as stock...of course, when someone figures out how to get them under the car, I'm all ears. 12" wide wheels aren't cheap.

Hahaha, I pretty much stopped at 295 because I figured anything over that was getting a little extreme, although I am sure 305s wouldn't be a big deal. Now 345s....

Does this give you some kind of staggerd appearence? How can this be if both sizes are 18".

The 255/45-18 diameter is 27.03 a diff of 0.52%
The 285/40-18 diameter is 26.97 a diff of 0.74% compared to the stock 235/55-17s.

Not sure whatyou are asking about a staggerd appearance.
Here is what they look like:

I think most of us say staggered only referencing tire and rim width, not rim size. I know some cars do 18"s up front and 19"s in the rear...that's not the case I am talking about here.
