Hello everyone, I would like to have the white Shelby type stripes painted on my 2006 Vista Blue GT. This is my first Stang and have NO IDEA how much to pay or how in the world to find a GOOD person to do it. I live in a large city in California (Sacramento) and there are as many paint shops as there are fast food places! Could someone give me some general guidelines to find a good shop and about how much to pay??
I am thinking I want the 2 10" stripes with 1.5" spacing between over the top of the car and the lower door stripes, with a couple of clear coats applied over everything.
Thanks!

Joe

Joe, don't even entertain the thought of painting until you're 100% positive of what you want. Once done, there aint no goin' back!

Exactly what Bill said. You might want to go with vinyl until you know exactly what you want.

To get just the lemans stripes painted you are looking anywhere from $800-$3,000 for a decent-excellent job. There are several ways people can have them painted on and different shops prefer different methods. The shop doing mine insists the front and rear windows are removed as well as each panel being painted. I have seen some shops that paint the parts while they are still in the car which is a shame cause eventually the paint cracks at the seams or simply looks unfinished.

You might want to post this in the california region section if you are looking for specific shop names in your area.

Whoever you try, if they are not willing to take off the front and rear bumper covers off to do the work pass on the offer.

Depending on the quality and wheter you want clear coar over it, expect to pay $1500 to $2500 at a good shop.

Look for a shop that has some similar business going in and out all of the time. You can guage the quality by seeing what they actually do. Ask lots of questions.

Thanks for the tips, it's starting to gel now. Makes sense - gotta get the parts off and paint those seperately... Any special brand of paint or clear I should insist on? Just looking for buzz words to use when I ask questions so I don't look TOTALLY stupid!

look at my car at the web site listed at the bottom of my signature.

I got gold shelby stripes from baltimore street mods.

Way cheaper than anyone else and one of the few to do the front bumber.

They have a kit pre cut. I got a body shop to do it for me (there a friend....ie free) but you can probably do it also by yourself.
