Stripe Kits 05-06
Where is the best place to get stripe kits for a 05-06 mustang gt?? I saw a few members cars had them and was just wondering? I see that Ford Racing has them but can't find a picture - I want to make sure they go from ground up - seems that some kits I see stop on top of the front bumper. I would like them to be like on the GT500. Any ideas?

They have the best variety I've seen
Didn't specify if you were going to do them yourself or not. If not look for a local shop that does vinyl installs. I found a good one near me to do mine. Although I've seen some places that have done bad jobs, so ask to see an example of the work they do and warranty information as well.

matt, vinyl stripe kits are from $150 to $300. i would go with only 3M vinyl stripes. installation runs around $200 to $300 tyically. i was quoted $150, but i wanted to lay it down myself. i'm just that type.
one fella got his stripes painted on for $800. super cheap. most ppl are paying ~ $2,000 for painted stripes.
NOTE: if you want your vinyl stripes to go down to the front chin spoiler or even down below the hood onto the front bumper, you have to special request it. same for the rear bumper. some stop just below the rear license plate. i wanted mine all the way down. also, the rear wing stripes are an option at some places. if you want it, you have to request it. each place varies a bit on each item possibly. ask to make sure you are getting precisely what you want.
i liked baltimore street mods. their kit is complete. they had extra vinyl which came in handy for me. their kit also incl. stuff for a convertible if you had it. and they had cut-outs for a front or no front licences plate. on the minus side, the windshield washer nozzle cut outs were misplace on mine. and i decided not to run the windshield wiper nozzles anyway. so i have the hole cut outs covered up with extra vinyl.
on other makers vinyl, you make the cut out so the holes will not be misplaced or in my case, i wouldn't have cut holes for the nozzles.
your first decision is what width stripes to get and how far apart they will be. the spacing of the stripes is 1", 1.5" or 2" normally. it can be greater but rarely.
and the stripe width can be 8", 9", 10", or 12" usually. do a search on rally stripes and you can see the measurements of a lot of cars and decide for yourself. mine are 10" stripes w/ a 2" gap between them.
there oceans of plain cars out there. the streets are awash with plain cars. then you come along with your striped '05. you will see ppl with mesmerized blank stares on their faces as they see your car. they are in shock, literally. your car will be a head-turner. it will be an attention grabber. it's like a hot blonde bombshell. even women will have to look at your drop dead gorgeous car. you will love it.

no problemo Matt.
remember, specify no windshield washer nozzle hole. it's really easy to take off the nozzle. when things are dry, you just cut an X where the nozzles go and it will be perfect.
the other three sites are very good too from feedback i have read. you can't go wrong with any of them i think. nearly went w/ graphic express but their spacing gap is 1.5".
and i almost went with auto trim design but baltimore street mods printed up the comprehensive kit detail which tilted it their way. btw, excellent support from baltimore via email. very nice fella, Rob, who owns it.
ppl were getting auto trim's kit for about $135 on ebay by bidding. but i wanted extra material bumper to bumper and then the wing striping was additional. the money wasn't a concern. i just felt there were too many variables to get things messed up in addtion to the color in the "additional notes" area i felt. i like to keep things simple when it comes to ordering this type of item.
80% of customers do their own stripes. the hardest part of doing it to me was finding the center of the car. it's not hard, but time consuming. use a grease pencil for your center marks. besides looking the best, IMHO, with a 2" gap, measuring sideways each way out 1" from the center marks was the esiest. use 3M blue painters tape from a hardware store as your 2" guide to lay your stripes down. read the instructions thoroughly and take your time! if things are not laying down correctly, take the stripe off and apply more water/soap solution. use a lot of water on the car, under the stripe and when the stripe is down, on the top of the stripe. squeegee lightly at first center of the stripe sideways out both ways. overlap strokes. then squeegee w/ pressure. remember, lightly squeegee at first. when it looks good then apply the pressure. the stripe is pressure sensitive. so if you have a problem, it is easier to undo if it is not pressed on hard.
if you need to remove the stripe in areas and are having a tough time, ues heat. i used a hair blow dryer.
the general consensus is that it's an 8 hour job. i took way longer. i'm a slow poke. matt, if you decide to pay someone to do your stripes, it could very well be the best $200 bucks or so you'll ever spend. 1. it takes a long time. many ppl say their installers said the '05 mustang takes longer than other cars. they say it took 8 hours for the pros. i read a father and son did theirs in 6 hours. go figure. maybe they didn't have the bumper stripes? can't rember the car. to tell you the truth,
i was a nervous wreck doing it for the first time. great peace of mind having a pro do it for you. i'm the type of guy who likes to do this sorta thing for the accompliahment so i had to do mine for the challenge. for those who payed to install theirs, it's a good choice.
one last thing, if you do your own installation, look at the pictures of the stripe orientation at the trunk emblem. the instrucitons didn't incl. pics at the time and i hurriedly eye-balled things. i put my stripes on upside down and cut off the excess. i nearly botched that part badly.
matt, you will love your stripes as we all do that have them. yesterday i was on the freeway when i passed a couple and their two young sons in a station wagon in bumper to bumper traffic. the father pointed at my car exclaiming something like, hey check out that car. the mom said something like, boys look, look. the boys turned their heads, rushed to the left side of the car and pressed their noses against the window, eyes wide open and mouths in the WOW formation. i thought to myself, that scene was me and my parents when i was a kid. matt, you will be ensuring the legend lives on yet another generation. having a striped '05- priceless.

Can a few people with this kit post some quick pics, particularly of the rear to see how well the precuts lined up?
You'll want to see mine for sure. It's the Baltimore Street Mods kit, self installed in 5 hours the same day the pics in the first link were taken.
Stripe Kit Day of installation
3 weeks later on a trip to see azlitigator (Janet)
I didn't have any problems with the pre-cut holes for the window washers at all, in fact I ended up trimming a little off. I spaced mine out at 1 5/8" and had no problem with a narrower gap, I wanted that way and it turned out great. The toughest part were the front bumpers, It was the last part of the job and I couldn't get them to lay down for nuthin, so I made a cut just below the first bulge to make it easier to lay down, worked like a charm and I found out that's what the owner does too when he installs them.
Speaking of which when you go to his website, you'll see the little "online" graphic toward the bottom left, that means he's on and available for Q's, he's a great guy and he'd be willing to help in any way he can

Thanks. I should have clarified. Graphic-express recommends NAPTHA to clean the area before applying stripes. They also recommend that you go over the area 10x with this stuff!
Since I picked up the NAPTHA in the same area as paint thinners and varnish removers I'm worried about what this stuff will do to my finish.
