Stock tires on a 17 x 9 new rim
I am wanting to add some new rims, but want to use the my stock tires. The tires have less than 2K miles on them. Will they look ok? also what to do with my old rims?
My daughter has a 94 mustang v-6, will they fit ok?
Thanks folks.

hang on to the old rims or sell them on ebay...
the stock 235 tires would not look so good on a 9 inch rim also im not sure they would work either, they need to bead up properly to fit... bottom line i think that the tire is to skinny for the rim.

use the stock tires til it needs to be replaced. no need to throw good money out.
i dont understand why many think the tire is not any good.
not good for what? racing maybe, but it seems to be good for the intnded purpose.
also tire rack recommends the stock tire size for 17X9 rims.

DO NOT leave the stock 235mm wide tire on a 9" wide rim. Since 23.5cm = 9¼, just one touch on a curb will wipe-out your rim, without that tire protection. I use the 255mm wide rubber on the 17"x8" rim, and I get a little protection that way. For a 17"x9" wide rim, go and get a set that is 285mm wide with a 45% aspect ratio.
285/45R-17:
Diameter = (28.5 cm) * (1/2.54 in/cm) * 45% * 2 + 17" = 27.1"
The stock GT wheel is 27.2", so this is close to spot-on, diameter wise.
With 285mm, you will have a 1" curb buffer protecting your rim.
The only thing that I am not sure of is if 285mm will fit OK on the front.

ok, if my stock tires are not that great of a choice,
What size tires did my daughters 94 v-6 mount? I am afraid to look (could be 16 inch). That was why I was looking at just swapping my whole set up onto her car.
Need your help here guys. a new set of rubber and rims we are talking over 1K here.

IN addition, I am trying to narrow my choice of wheel to the 3 below.
Classic cragar SS type
[attachmentid=43456]
Or a chrome version of the new shelby (since my car is a personal version of a 1966/67~2006)
[attachmentid=43457]
Or a different version of the shelby wheel of back in the day
[attachmentid=43458]
My concern is not wanting to go with any rice look. I like some of the new wheels but I want to avoid the rice look and to keep some of the classic lines of our car (just like ford did).
Since I may need to get new rubber, what type would look good on these rims?
I am also planning on adding Steeda sport springs and dropping it a touch.

My choice would be either the first or the second rim, because they are easier to wash. Please see my poll here for Washing your Mustang in the Fall and Winter, how often?

Personally, I purchased the first rim style in a 17"x8" (which Les Schwab calls a Bullet Rim), and I still think that look is most pleasing.

I just purchased 17x9 polished bullits for my 05, I wasn't sure if the 235/55/17 Pirrellis would fit, but they do. Not the best fit in the world, the kinda "balloon" out a bit at the rim, but not like the ghetto low rider cars in town w/ the 10 inch wheel and the 195 tire (if you know what I mean).
They will get the job done, until you get ready to spend money on new tires.
