Question Source For Louvered Headlight Trim

Greetings All:

Can anyone point me in the direction of an aftermarket source for the louvered "vintage-style" headlight trim pieces for an '05 GT as shown in the photo below?

This is a photo from CDC's web site, highlighting their billet grille; I'd assumed that the headlight trim was theirs as well, but cannot find a part listing for it.

I seemed to recall a couple of different suppliers offering these when the 197 was first released in '05, but now cannot seem to find anyone advertising these.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

I believe that those are just the factory headlight buckets with the clear plastic removed and the buckets painted ...

Your car already has those "louvers" in the headlamps it's just that CDC either painted them or converted them into turn signals. Can't really tell from the pic.

Nope, those are custom, a one pair production thing. I have asked the questions and actually got a reply from the guy at CDC that did them.

Also notice that there are 3 openings in this lamp, and we only have 2 from factory...

Rony:

Thanks for clarifying. After the first couple of responses, I thought I was losing my mind. Now if we can only talk those nice kids over at CDC into putting these into production...

There has been so much interest in these headlights that it amazes me nobody has produced them yet.

I think this could be done by a good body shop if you were willing to pay.

they said it costs way too much to make them, that it would not be profitable to do.

Agreed. When I contacted CDC, same story...it was a demo piece and was not considered cost effective to manufacture. I was even thinking on purchasing some factory replacements and trying my hand at it but have not done so to this point.

Let me know if anybody does know of a source for these... or has tried the "homestyle" mod...

This can be done, all in the timing and temperature of the plastic when you attempt to seperate the lenses from the housings.

Well if they DO produce it, they better have better fitment than I saw on their model car at the MCA meet in Birmingham last year

looked horrible up close, especially the gap on the left

Knowing CDC if it hits production, it'll be right.

I just can't see how it could possibly be that expensive to produce. Just take a core, remove the the plastic, seal the reflector, paint and done. People on this forum have done it themselves. I like the painted bucket, to add some contrast to make the louvers stand out, but would be happier if the outer plastic was left on. There definately IS a market, I also am supprised no ones made them yet. They've got projector and other aftermarket headlights that had to be built from scratch. These could be created using the core, just painted buckets, makes me curious why you can't buy them.

To fit right, they would have to be made from scratch and not using the stock ones as the core. As you can see, they don't fit right when that is done. And CDC will do it right, making them expensive. The aftermarket headlights that are out there are cheap. They use cheap materials and cheap labor and some aren't truly DOT approved. And getting DOT approval for this type of light is probably not too easy. I want them to make them as much as the next guy... but I don't see it happening. They know how many people want them. They would've made them by now if they thought they could.
