Shelby Signature... protection question
I managed to grab a picture of the plaque, and thought I would post it up as no one seems to have done so as of yet. I’m very happy with the way it turned out, I showed my car last weekend and it sure demanded a lot of attention!

It's a nice piece, not flimsy like the one pictured on the website. Its a hunk of machined aluminum with a brushed finish. It's contoured on the back to the shape of the dash, and is a %100 perfect fit. The back is covered by 3M tape, I'm convinced I'd rip the panel off the car if I ever tired to remove it.

I just went to Ford to ask for an exploded diagram on how to remove that center piece. It wasn't much help, except to show that the piece has tabs at each end, not on top or bottom. The tabs are obviously different from left to right, so I am hoping that you only have to remove the guage cluster piece to get to the screws on the left. I'm thinking that the tabs on the right just slip into place under the air-bag cover, so you don't have to mess with the airbag, but, as I said, the diagram isn't that detailed, and I'm not sure how to get the guage cluster out, either.
well lookie what i got in the mail today!!!!

im went out and got some kylon acrylic crystal clear... it says "protective, non-yellowing finish"
im going to write on some aluminum and spray it first to double check the finish and quality, then i will spray it...... i will be sure to get some before and after pics up of the finish, and also of the piece in the car.

my next question is:
whats the best way to preserve the certificate? i dont want it fading either, i dont want to laminate it either cause who knows what the glue will do 20 years from now to the finish.... i need like an acid free uv resistant frame to put it into... hmmm

look at a scrapbooking supplies store...they would have something like that that would preserve pictures.
well here it is after the clear coat......

after close examination of both photos, there is no difference in the signature... it didnt change at all.... but on my test piece i sprayed too much clear and it did run my "mock" signature a little bit, no one would notice, but i did cause i did the test.
the krylon looks to be good stuff, but just like earlier posts said, layer it on in mist coats. not full coats. dont worry if the first few coats look rough, they will smooth out after several layers are applied, the whole process took me an hour and a half... the only difference is the way the panel reflects light now, because the paint smoothened out the aluminum piece just a tiny bit it makes it reflect light better... its not glossy, just barely noticible..... looking straight at the piece you could not tell a difference in a painted and non painted one
it will be put in the car tomorrow, i will get photos at that time.
thanks guys!
