You should change your vote because the kit is in fact made by shelby. And is by them considered a shelby even though they do not do any installs of it... ever... So actually according to your logic it is a shelby because the kit and all parts were made by them!!

the end

Sorry by the way I know I'm beating a dead horse and I'll let this thread die now but this is the kind of stuff that was going to irritate me because even though it is in fact a shelby in every sense of their definition of this kit approximately half of the populace is not going to see it as a shelby... and they are going to view this as a ripoff/clone/"tribute" when in fact it is everything it claims to be.

My apologies for dragging on for an eternity though.

It's your car - do what makes you happy.

As long as you don't try to misrepresent it or sell it as an authentically "Built by Shelby" car, who the heck cares?

And if the authentic "Built by Shelby" owners **** and whine, they are just limp-wristed pansies who sip double-frothed chocolate-mocha latte whilst eating quiche. IMO, if YOU do the work using Shelby's kit, it's still a Shelby but not a "Built by Shelby" car. Who cares????

It is what it is. Go for it!

Knock yourself out, badge the car however you want to, and enjoy it. I've even seen Shelby GT500 clones made from V6's so who cares?

Have fun!

Well unfortunately after over 3 months my car is still int he shop looking like ****. It seems I'm not going to get it back for another week still. But I ended up deciding to put the shelby lettering on the back due to the fact that it is a authentic kit car from shelby that I am just modifying. I have nto decided what I'm donig with the front yet though whether I put the shelby or a simple running horse. Jury's still out on that one....

That's why I couldn't find a Shelby.

This is just getting stupid. Who cares what other folks think! In this case you're buying parts that Shelby is selling in the aftermarket. They don't even build the d amn thing themselves so as you mentioned these is no such thing as a "real" Shelby variant. You're using real Shelby parts so stick it on wherever you want. Hell, the GT500 isn't a "real" Shelby (not built by SAI), but it has Shelby badges all over it.

LOL excellent point hahahaha. As for caring what other folks think I already passed that point as well this thread died about a month ago actually somehow it's been ressurected though! It doesn't really matter though because I basically made my decision anyway lol. Shelby on the back... no rocker stripes.... but the front i'm still iffy on

+1 I completely agree. I cloned a GT500 with all the bading because I thought it made the car look better and thats JMO. If you really want to put the badging on your car then I say go for it.

I feel the same way as the last poster...

Badge it the way YOU want to. **** what others think.

I think your a little silly by wanting people who look down on clones and
call those ppl posers to not think of YOUR car as a clone. It is...

I have always loved Shelby Mustangs since I was a kid. But I cannot
afford one. So I will build one myself and offer no apologies for doing it.

this is an age old question and will always get mixed opinions

i believe if shelby is okay with it, you are okay to do it.
They sell all the parts under the "Build your own shelby" slogan.
they also sell the badges and tags.

last i remember, when i did mine, the reaction i got from them was, and i quote:
"Looks good louie, like it's built to go together, a proud piece of machinery"

whatever floats your boat buck.. you can't make everyone happy.
i'm sure people will have a million good reasons to put up the badges and a million others not to.

p.s: thanks for using my car's photos in your mockup

LOL no problem to be honest I have been planning on doing the CS8 kit for about 2 years now but it never looked quite right to me. The final straw was when I saw your car and it had the look dead on. So after much debate I decided to go with the cs8 but with the gt500 front end... to be honest without seeing yours I don't know that I would have ever made the decision in the end.

Just out of curiosity, when a Vette, Viper, or even a stock Mustang GT pulls up next to you and wants to play, do you wave them off, just smile and watch their tail lights, or try to race and get smoked? I guess my only issue with cloning a car that is known for being higher performance is that the speed performance can't live up to the label. I have a CS that has very few power mods done to it yet. Even when I get it done, I'd be a fool to tangle with a real GT500 or a Vette. Some will poo poo this and say that racing is only done on the track. Realistically, many Mustang owners bought their cars because they have power, they want a sports car, and occasionally like to let the ponies run free. I think your car looks really great. I think having some other stock V8 powered car, or worse yet a high performance V6 import, blow you off in the weeds embarrasses the Shelby name. I try and have a bit of knowledge on other cars on the road so I don't bite off more than I can chew needlessly.

Old thread I know but my .02 on clones. I think the Shelby company would agree accept that it would hurt their sales to publicly do so. As a result, they zip their lips and smile all the way to the bank. But, to each his own. There is a cost to buying a real GT500 and it pains the wallet. There is a cost to driving a clone and it pains the ego.
