I'd still like to see a GT/CS and GT500 bumper side by side... before they are prepped or painted.

GT/CS rear facia info

My GT/CS rear facia arrived at my dealer last week and I went by today to take a look at it.

It is the CS part number.

I believe mine was a little over $300 shipped

The body shop guy was talking about wet sanding the textured sides with 400 grit sandpaper to prepare them to be primed/painted with the rest of the bumper to match the scheme on the CS facia.

From what I'm reading here not many (or maybe no one) sanded their sides prior to painting them the body color.

I've got to decide what to do here. I'm not paying a body shop guy $40 an hour to sand a bumper.

I'll let him paint it, but if the sides have to be sanded to have everything blend together like on the California Special, I'll let him spray it after I've sanded it.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I will go by and get a pic of the raw bumper cover tomorrow and post it for those interested.

If you read past the first post, you'd notice that the $100 dollar price has changed...

Well Ford f'd everything up with this. At first they were really cheap, and as noted above, they jacked up the prices. The ones below are the best I can do.

Ca. Special style
7R3Z-17K835-AAPBP List $414.62 Inet $225.00 plus $50 for S&H.

GT500 style
7R3Z-17K835-BAPBP List $476.80 Inet $250.00 plus $50 for S&H.

I called them and spoke to Bill. He seemed VERY knowledgable & helpful.

He said those prices ($225 & $250) are still good, but those bumpers are rejects or blemish parts and that's why they're so cheap.

I may be wrong here, but doesn't blemish indicate that they have been painted, and that's where the blemish is? If you were repainting anyway it wouldn't matter. Hmmm.

If you guys are serious about this, I may have enough orders to get this going. To get the good price from Ford I would like to get a better count of people wanting these things.

I have about 5 pending already, lets see how many more we can get.

Here is the information from Ford on these bumpers, to help clear up anything that is misunderstood.

RECOVERED OE PARTS TRUCKLOAD PROGRAM

What are Recovered Parts (ROE)?
Recovered Parts are collision repair parts that perform and fit like new original equipment (OE). However, slight blemishes disqualify these parts from meeting Q1 specifications. Recovered Parts are recovered from dealer inventory returns, assembly plants and Tier I and Tier II supplier plants and are available at discounted prices.
The Recovered Part (ROE) Value
  • OE Performance/Competitive Price
Recovered Parts are competitively priced with aftermarket parts and in most cases with salvage parts
  • Improved Insurer Relations/Customer Satisfaction
Insurer/customer quality standards and low price expections will be met by using Recovered Parts for collision repairs.

No. It doesn't mean they've been painted.

Are you talking about getting a good price from Ford on non-blemished bumpers or the ROE ones? I want a GT500 style bumper cover that's not blemished.

As luck would have it, I need a new rear bumper. What's the scoop on these? Are we looking at a GT/CS rear bumper that just needs sanding and painting?
