I like the stock Shelby hood when I saw it in-person. Pictures do not do it justice. I think it would complete the look. But go with what you personally like on the car. If I had some extra cash I would do the Shelby conversion on my limer GT.

I think that's the best answer here.

Are you looking to build a replica or something unique?

I don't necessarily want a replica. I'm not putting Shelby badging on it. I figure the guys that shell out 20 grand over sticker have exclusive rights to that cobra emblem. I just like the aggressive look of the Shelby front end. Once I saw it on my car though, it really seems to need the hood to complete the look. I have to agree w/ Creedog. I too saw the Shelby in person (Oklahoma City auto show) and the GT500 hood looks much better in person. The pics just don't do it justice.

I'm still thinkin tho.

Congrats on having all the parts to do the job - I can't wait to see the pics of the final outcome. Although I may not want to see them

I'll have a complete part list in a few days. I spoke to Kevin today and he said the only thing he was waiting on was the bolts to hold on the chin spoiler. I think Kevin is pretty squared away on the whole conversion. He is the one who helped me and my dealer with the splash guard issue. I do know the bolts for the chin spoiler are the same for the mercury merauder. I'll get part numbers as soon as I can.

UPDATE:

Car is at the paint shop. I'm having stripes painted on as well so it will be a little while, but I did go ahead and order the Shelby hood and the vents from Ford. They gave me a deal I couldn't refuse. I'll post pics soon and I'll post part numbers as soon as Ford gives me my final invoice.

Talking Can't wait to see the final result

I wanted your color but it was not available in 05" so I got windveil blue.
I agree with you on painting the stripes - I've seen plenty of older mustangs in my time that have gone the vinyl stripe route - only to see it latter peel, crack or just fade over time. Plus its easier to wax when painted !

After going through the parts list - am I correct in assuming you must replace your headlights? The stock ones will no longer fit?

If so, scratch THAT idea! I dropped $1100 on Saleens, no way I am going to toss them away...

Great looking conversion OKLA!! Can't wait to see the finished pics...

You could have someone custom fabricate shelby headlights, with the Saleen HID innards... I dont know how great it would look, but it could be done pretty easily.

BTW V6 and GT's do have different part numbers and they are different at the bottom, V6 are shorter and more round as the V6 bumper is not as low and mean like the GT. I had to change them when I installed GT bumper on my V6.

Hey Bud,
What did you do to make the fogs work? Did you use a GT wiring harness or were the pig tails in place? I have a guy that wants to put my GT front on his V6 but is worried about the fogs.

Thanks

Jesse

2L8IWON, do a search on V6 grill conversion or V6 Bumper conversion there,s plenty of ways of doing this, but the simplest method these days is to buy the V6 Pony Package conversion harness from ford and the GT switch. vbmenu_register("postmenu_701935", true);

Update:

Ok here are some pics w/ the hood closed. My car is now at the Mustang collision center getting all prepped for stripes and getting the new front bumper painted. Still waiting on the new hood/vents. Should be here Monday. I actually think it looks ok with his hood, but I still like the Shelby hood better.

Just my .02 but the hood latch rally needs to be blacked out. You can see it though the grill and it looks odd.

Got the bumper cover sitting in my garage now with the hood on the way. Just waiting for your completed list to finishes it up!!

Thanks for giving us all this info!!!

You da man!
