Shelby Alcoa Question

I plan on putting the Shelby Alcoas on my stock 2005 GT however I am putting 20 x 9's all around so I can rotate them. Anyone know what size tire would be best to go with?

265/35/20 would fit a 9 inch wide rim nicely I find 255's do not stretch over the rim enough and 275's bulge a tad.......275's also would be too wide for the front of the car.

IMO, if I had the chance to put 20 x 10's in the back.....I would do that instead to get the staggered look. You can easily put a 295 in the back

I'm going from Razors to Alcoas. When the Razors came out I thought I had gotten my last wheels. Now these came out and I'm thinking the same thing. It's driving my wife crazy...LOL!!!! I still think the Razors are one of the best wheels ever for our cars!

The Alcoas are definitely nice, but are they really that nice to justify the price tag? You gotta remember they are off a Super Snake Mustang which is mega $$$$$......so I gotta feeling the price is jacked up just from that.

Go 275/35-20 all around. I did the 255/35-20s initially, and when I moved up the steering feel, the responsiveness, and the ride all improved. They're a tad taller than needed (1/2 inch or so, 27.5 overall for my Dunlops) but it actually fills the wheelwell much better that way. Never had any rubbing issues, either, front or rear on 20x9s. Also many more choices in 275 than 265 available and generally cheaper (7 in 275 and only one in 265 available on TireRack under $200).

They are 1 piece forged aluminum. Surprisingly light for wheels that size.

So you have 20 x 9's all around? Can I see pics of your car? I'd also like to see that tire size to see what it looks like.

I don't yet have pics of the 275/35-20s (just don't have the time right now), but have the 255 pics (they're quite old):

These are the wheels (except in silver):

TireRack sent 5mm spacers with the wheels which I do use. Not a huge difference, though.

we machined those for alcoa at work, they are a beautiful/lightweight wheel. the raw forgings go over 100 pounds, they are cold forged then spun prior to machining, beautiful piece... you can twist one of those forgings like a pretzel without cracking it, bump a curb with any casting, expect it to bust off the car.

Alcoa makes some really impressive forgings- the price of cast wheels IMO is way too high- there is only a couple pounds of machining required, casting dies are relatively cheap...

if folks ever saw how strong/ductile a forged wheel was compared to a casting, they would insist on them...even if the price was more due to the millions of dollars in processing equipment required to press/spin such a piece prior to finishing. I saw the 'big press' up in Cleveland, they can press up to 56,000 TONS for making larger forgings...IIRC that press has like 16 columns, 4 feet diameter, near 100 feet tall, biggest machine Ive ever seen...there was some kind of 'national engineering landmark' plaque by the press...one of the biggest on earth...the wheel presses are smaller, but still huge.

most cast wheels are just molten metal poured into a cheap mold- some are squeeze cast giving a little grain to the material, but still nothing compared to a cold forged piece.
COMPARED TO A CASTING the Alcoas are a bargain. Chinese cast wheels probably actually cost 10 bucks finished from china, made out of God knows what 'floor sweep' material they pour into it, where a raw unmachined 6061-T6 Aerospace quality alloy cold forging can run in the hundreds due to the amount of cost that goes into producing the strongest form of aluminum possible.

I am doing this set up next year. I have been eyeing these wheels for the past two years now but I will do the staggered setup as I want more meat on the rears.
