The scoop itself is cast aluminum. Everything else is plastic.

Does it feel like it could be painted? I dont know if the contrast
in blacks would look good with my stripes.

Yes, it can be painted I am debating getting mine airbrushed...
But you could paint it solid as well

Hey CD - thanks for sharing the pic of the CDC kit.....I've been on the fence about this mod for some time now....what did you pay and I'm assuming this is the "non-hood" kit where you must cut your stock hood? Be sure to "Measure Twice"

You could paint it if you wanted but I don't think that the difference between the stripes and the scoop are worth the trouble.

Does anybody know what is the width of the protective ring (from outer edge to outer edge), at it's widest point?

I'm thinking about a stripe idea that has a little larger gap and outer stripe than the original 1970 design (kinda like this picture)

It was $831 after shipping straight from CDC as for Be sure to "Measure Twice"
My template for cutting the hood was too small and had to trim more hood to get the trim ring to fit. I did it yesterday so I couldn't call their Tech support, but I am pleased how it all turned out.
I will post more pictures of my install later today.

That is odd that the template was too small. First time I have heard of that one Glad to see you got it installed. Told ya it wasn't that bad
