Saleen Style Hood
Saleen Style Hood
There is a company that makes a fiberglass Hood that looks just like the Saleen Heat extractor hood, Does anyone know there name. I want a Saleen hood but the 1600 to 1700 for the aluminum is way outside my budget.
I have one in the garage. Its called a Colt Hood. Its made by Duraflex.

I never used it. Painted it black and leaned it against the wall.
PM me before you buy one.

Not shure on the quality. I couldn't find any under hood pics or installed pics.

How's the quality?
Lot of prep work required?
Did in include the grilles, how are they?
How much does it weigh?
well...I wasnt gonna put it out there but why not....
stay away from that hood. To keep it from being a copyright violation they cut out the bottom of the
vents. The deisgn of the hood is then ruined as the runners for the air venting have been destroyed.
It also DOES NOT come with vents. They put a grill in there
that is so freeking cheap you wouldnt even cook a burger on it.
You can buy the Saleen Vents for around $60 each side ($120) but then because the bottom of the hood under the vent was cut out there is no way to attach them!!
The front corners of the hood are shaved at an angle so the lines dont match up to the quarter panel.
THEN...the latch mechanism are two holes with no way to get to the back for a nut and your stock one wont attach. The picture they have posted of the hood is a Saleen hood and not the hood they are selling.
Read the details. It even says that the picture just represents something simular or some such crap.
I tried the best to make it work for me.....I had it painted and even made aluminum bars that fit under the hood that the real saleen vents would attach to but I was stumped on how to latch the hood down without putting those bolts up through it like so many aftermarket hoods have....which in my opinion would ruin the look of the hood.
When I contacted them they said I would have to pay for shipping back... and that was almost the price of the hood!!
I recommend you keep looking for the aluminum saleen hood. I finally found one and its awesome.
The heat extractors work like you wouldnt believe!!
I can take photos to show you if youd like.

after sanding it down:

see how they butcher the hood??

setting on the vents but no way to attach them....

The front edge where it meets the quarter panel angles up so there is a good 1/4" difference
versus a stock hood or the real Saleen hood. Also the vents are just sitting there on the holes.
I took these pix when I was fitting the hood.

prepped and ready for paint:

It reminded me of something though...
Can you guess?

lol
Painted:

This was when I was fabbin up attachments for the vents (and yes the Mrs was mad I had it in the living room!):

I purchased the Saleen nozzles for it.

at this point I ran accross a used Saleen aluminum hood off a PJ addition so I painted & used it.
Now this hood is garage art. lol

oh yeah.....the bottom of a stock Saleen heat extraction hood looks like this
(notice its not cut and there are 4 corner points on the bottom of the vent housing to attach the vents to the hood):

so when the air runs over the vents it pulls the air from both top sides and creates a vacuum
which draws the heat from the central area over the belts in and out of the top of the hood.
Now when Duraflex cuts them its ruined.
oriinally I called and asked for one that wasnt cut and they said that was how they came.
It was their way to get around the copyright laws. Oh boy.
I looked into fiberglassing them in but ran across a real one before I seriously considered
what (if any) action to take to make this hood functional as intended.
Even with the chops it would vent but not as engineered.
Anyways.....I put one awesome paint job on a hood that i would rate 2 stars out of 5.
2 because the corners, the vents and the inability to latch it down.
One rep told me that Duraflex puts threads in there to attach the latch to the hood but I didnt see them on mine-
Just holes.
