Thumbs up

Does anyone think we'll see a retro style white letter tire for the 17 & 18 inch OEM wheels, I'm going for the retro look and would like to see a white letter tire from one of the major tire manufactoring companies.

I thought the mustang on the cover of Motor Trend had a white letter B F Goodrich tire, but the production car ended up with pirellies. Sorry I'm not a fan of the production brand tire.

If any major tire manufacturing company like Goodyear, Firestone, or B F Goodrich needs a test vehicle, I'll volunteer my 05 GT as a test vehicle for customer feedback.

Anyone else have similar interests?

Not too long ago, we had a thread going about sending emails to different tire manufacturers requesting they consider making a RWL. IMO it might happen when there is more demand from owners wanting them on Chargers, Camaro's, etc. Then, the question will be the what sizes - doubt it will be 17's

I remember the thread and it just dropped off the radar screen and we never heard anymore. There appeared to be some interest.

Every day I stop myself from buying a set of BFG Radial T/A tires with 70 mm sidewall and four 16" retro-styled rims.
The wait for 17" or 18" RWL tires with the proper speed/load rating is killing me. But I keep waiting. Maybe in 3-4 years we'll have them, like Ed said.

Louie... trust me, don't put 16" wheels on this car. It will not look right. I am all about smaller wheels and larger sidewalls, believe me. But because of the size, shape and design of this car, 16" wheels are not going to look right IMO. 17" is the smallest I'd go.

Many motorcycle guys and concept car builders use some sort of special rubber paint. It holds up well, I don't know where to get it though, probably JC Whitney or someone huge 'normal' parts outlet sells it. Then you just paint the letters. although, the tire still needs its name spread around the diameter evenly, so the stock pirellis wont work. They need to make KDW's in the 'R A D I A L T/A' or Firestones in the ' W I D E o O V A L' motif, that would rock, or at least redlines.

Here is a thread about them. There was a picture of a Tungsten Grey GT with fanblades on it and the BF Goodrich tires had white letters.....looked pretty cool. Look on page 3 of this thread for the pic. of it.

I wrote BFG back in the summer asking why they dont offer RWL T/A's specifically for the new mustang, as they would look great on the car, and mustang guys seem to buy more personalizing stuff than just about any other 'new car' group out there... response I got was the tires are not speed rated due to construction, so it would be improper application on our cars...I dont drive 150 mph, but I do like the look of T/A radials...Ive put T/A's on 4 of my cars in the last couple years(the camaro and the f150 are gone now though). If there was a slightly wider set for my mustang, I'd buy them for sure. theyd look right at home on the stock wheels...

I found a site advertising do it yourself white lettering kits for tires http://www.customtirefx.com/

I don't know anything about the company; I just found the website...

Thet's exactly what's stopping me. They'd look really bad with the proportions of the car.
