Replacing GT spoiler with Shelby GT 500 spoiler
Replacing GT spoiler with Shelby GT 500 spoiler
Can someone who has performed this project share with me a step by step process on how to remove my factory spoiler without damaging my decklid? I have heard many different ways. I have my new spoiler painted and ready. Thanks!
that stock stock spoiler is a pain in the butt to get off ,,with the double sided tape holding it on ,,Ford has good tape .

get some blue painters tape to start with ,then a flat pease of soft plastic to work under the stock deck spoiler ,,and just go slow pushing under the stock spoiler mounts ,it as double sided tape ,,once you remove the bolts, the two on each side under the deck ,,put the painters tape on each side of the stock mounts before you start so you don't damage the paint on the deck ,this all takes time ,,go slow ,,one side at a time ,,,good luck

thanks for the information, your help will really assist me, believe me I will follow your advise and take it slowly. By the way, I did not think to order my spoiler through the Ford Racing Catalog, I ordered my through my Parts Dept. as a service part, it looked the exact same as yours with double sided tape and plastic caps on the four studs..... Thanks for the welcome note. Your car looks awsome!
Is your tape laid the same way. Mine (from ebay) had tape laid around the edge. When I was ready to mount it. I peeled just a corner off. Then snugged the bolts down to where it would barely move and made sure it was aligned. Once I was happy with the placement, I peeled the tape backing off and tightened it down. I did install bolts on the outside of mine to keep the edges down, but think this is usually an issue with the knock off.
I've done this twice. I would advise against using any plastic device/scraper for fear of marking up the clearcoat. Just use the painter's tape, then use 40 lb test braided fishing line in a sawing motion to cut through the double sided tape on the original spoiler. After it's removed, just clean off the residual tape with your finger, then use Goo Gone, if needed. I had to drill the needed 4 holes on my Shelby GT, as it didn't originally have a spoiler. Your pony already has the needed holes. Here's some photos of mine.

Still waiting for my Body Shop to paint my spoiler, they are really busy and the Body Shop Mgr. is trying to paint it between all of his big jobs, looks like the spoiler conversion will have to wait until Labor Day weekend, no big deal. Will post pictures when it is completed.................
