I'm thinking of either removing the fake gas cap completely or swapping it for a V6 edition.
Anyone know how it's held on? I assume it's tape like the badges.
Are there any alignment holes like the 99-04 fender emblems?
I know some of the cars at SEMA had them removed.
Anyone here work on one of them?

Jason

I want to do the same thing. The tri-bar logo looks a lot nicer than the GT logo.

Yeah, John from AAI got a V6 'gas cap'...there are 2 holes and its held on with adhesive...the holes look to be about 1/4 or 1/2 inch wide.

Shouldn't be too hard to swap out for one or the other 'caps'
If your handy with metal working, the holes shouldn't be a problem either

I agree that the Tri-Bar logo looks better than GT.....but not worth replacing the cap for me. I wonder if just the center badge comes out of the cap?

I agree completely. The GT center cap is way too plain and the Mustang tri-bar is far better. I hope they can be swapped easily, and that will be my first mod for sure.

I've got a tri-bar mustang from my first 66 - I've thought about putting it on my new 05, but man I hate the thought of drilling the four holes for it. It's smaller than the cap though - I'd probably put it on a front qtr-panel where it was on the 66.

Steeda wants $99.00 for their cap, I can image how much Ford will nail ya if you order 1 for the V6. I'm not going to replace mine. If I did it would be for an aftermarket one, not one from the V6.

You might want to wait it out for at least 6 months .There's still a lot of companies working on aftermarket products that are not out yet for the 05.

For the aftermarket companies making black out panel, how about making one that allows us to remove the 'cap' completely.
It's just too big IMO.

Yes, I'm sure, but will any of them cover the gas cap area if it is removed?
Remember the Mach 1 panel?
It had a molded in area for the GT and Ford badges.
You HAD to put them back on there or it looked stupid.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Any "insiders" know what the aftermarket companies are planning for the black out panel?
Are we going to have the option of leaving off the cap?
