Ed,
Can you find out from parts or a tech what type of socket (and size) is needed to remove the rear wing from an 05/06 Mustang? It looks like a 5-point with uneven sides. Certainly not an SAE or metric.

Picked up my 06 w/pony pack today & I'm doing my own spoiler delete - if I can find a wrench to remove the bolts! (Still amazed you can't order the pony pack with the delete option but, oh well....)

Thanks in advance for your help. Your info is always great.

You're going to have a couple holes in your trunk.

korinwoodo,
Acutually, four holes - that will be filled & painted.

Would like to find a V6 owner w/o the wing who would like to swap deck lids. That would be the easiest fix.

I pick my car up from the paint shop today. He removed my spoiler to paint the stripes. I will ask about the size for you today.

Did a wing swap a few weeks ago, think it was an 11 or 12mm socket, nothing special. Just have to remember to heat up the back of the deck lid with a hair dryer or heat gun to loosen the doulbe sided adhesive tape that secures the wing. Others have recomended using fishing line (slide it between the base and deck lid) to help release the adhesive

Yeah, just standard 10mm socket. The adhesive tape is the hard part...

Spoiler delete done. Took about 30 minutes & thanks for all the tips.
Turns out the 10mm worked but the nut heads were unlike anything I've seen. However, a "star" wrench would be the best way to remove the wing, as the nut and bolt came out as one, leaving a nut that is embedding in the plastic wing.

Until I get the fill & paint work done, gray plastic plugs (used to hold interior panels) with double-sided tape fills the four holes. The plugs actually match the paint pretty well. The question: are they UV-proof and how long will they last? Don't think, with the tape, they will leak.

IMHO, the S97 looks a lot better without the rear spoiler.
