I've seen some discussion on this previously, but can't seem to find it in a search...

Looks / aesthetics aside (I like it both with and without the spoiler), and no cost differential, so....

What's your story on keeping or deleting the spoiler, in terms of durability, paint, etc.

Is it prone to breaking ? Fading paint? Other concerns?

Your input is appreciated.

If I were you, I'd keep it and then if you don't like it at the dealer, have them remove it. Simple as that.

If it were me, I'd delete it since it looks so much more like the '65-66 fastbacks without it. And, you can add a ducktail spoiler to it easier that way too. I know I'd order the delete if I were buying one right now.

It is much easier to get a car without a spoiler and add one later than the other way around.

Trust me, I will have no choice but to get a spoiler and will have to do that up here

The problem is, they drill holes in the trunk lid to mount the spoiler; can't just take it off if you don't like it.

Yes, you can add one later, but at what cost? I like the guy who commented a few weeks back, that Ford should give the spoiler to us in a bag or something.....

I saw a 2001 GT the other day and the spoiler was all faded, discolored, really looked bad....hence my question.

Thanks Mustangshadow....about your 98 with no problems...

I agree, it looks so much like the 65-66 fastback without it. Those are my favorite model years...I have a restored 65 fastback in the garage now.....

Decisions, decisions....

Yes, Ma'am, AmyC. The female vote is overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the spoiler; my son too....

Appreciate the opinions; more are welcome....

ask yourself these...

1.is your car a bird?
2.do you plan on flying it over north pole?
3.which dipping sauce do you prefer?
4.do you blaze up the right or left part of the ice? (defencemen need not apply)
5.are you a mighty ducks fan?
6.do you live in canada?

I have had no problems with my '03 spoiler and I've never seen one fade.
I'm not getting one because of the looks of the '65 Fastback. (I have one also)
One thing I can say I'll enjoy more about no spoiler is washing it. Easier to wash w/o it.
The new 05 spoiler is nothing like the old one. Take a look underneath the new one.
It's not solid, flat piece like the old one. Looks like Ford got cheap on the new one.
I'm not sure how to describe it, but it has a large groove or indentation all the way across.
Imagine a heavy metal part of some kind where you would take out as much material as possible to save weight.
Just looks funny even though no one will see it.

I think the car looks like the 60s version sans spoiler. I am leaning toward the spoiler delete option.

Great point, StangNut, about easier to wash without it. I've never had a spoiler, but it looks like a real pain to wash and wax.

Weekly washing around that thing will likely get real old, real fast.

Thanks....

It's not a HUGE pain but it'll definitely be easier w/o it.
BTW, I'll probably be adding the CDC ducktail spoiler.
As much as I LOVE my '65, I've always liked the spolier on the 67/68 Shelby and the 68 California Special.

I can't see a problem with a spoiler. I have one on my 98 Stang. If you take it off what are you going to use to plug the holes? Also how are you going to smooth out the plugged holes to match the cars finish? If the spoiler is not causing a view blockage out the back window perhaps you should consider keeping it and saving yourself a lot of grief later.

B) Ordered ours with the spoiler delete option.
Arrived FRIDAY and had factory had mistakenly installed the spoiler. Dealer offered to order a new trunk and replace when it arrived. Now that I see it in person it looks good; leaving it on.

I've seen lots of photos on the 05 GT since we decided to order one back in February (ordered 5-21, built 9-8 owned 11-5). Nowever, NOTHING does it justice once seen in person.

My advice, look at one of each and then decide, it's a visual and matter of preference.

I think I'll go with the Spoiler Delete option because I think the car will have a better profile without it. Spoilers are everywhere these days. I think people add them to make their cars appear sporty. Well, the mustang will say that loud and clear without a spoiler.

My '05 GT doesn't have the spoiler. I think the car looks great without it. I do like the look of the '05's spoiler better than past Mustangs, but for me it was a no brainer in getting the delete option.

As to durability and fading of the spoiler, I never had a problem with my SN95 Mustangs.

Some colors look better with the Bullitt wheels than others, and some color combinations and wheels look better without the spoiler. I can't explain it just personal preferance I guess.
