Rear blackout cutout too large
I received the plastic rear blackout panel from www.newwavemustang.com--it's the one from Xenon. When test fitting it, I discovered the cutout for the rear fake filler cap was a bit too large almost all the way around, so there's plenty of the base Torch Red color exposed (abou 1/4" all the way around). Sure, I could go through the hassle of a return, but I'm wondering if there's some CHEAP way of blacking out a 1" ring around the riller cap so the gap isn't so apparent.
Any ideas?

Put a black vinyl ring around the emblem before you put on the panel.
Someone had this panel put on and had the same problem recently. Unfortunately, I've forgotten who, or which thread it was in.

It's just the way the Xenon / GTS piece is made. Their tolerances allow for a Mack truck to get by. We bought and measured one to see how the "competition" measured up.... it didn't.
Good news though is that our piece has a fit of .025" (that's 25 thousandths of an inch), which allows for expansion and contraction due to temperature. Look at the pictures of our piece, and you'll see how close the fit is. I'd sell your piece on EBay and then you could just get on our pre-order list

The honeycomb panel looks nice but I'm not sure how it will affect the look I'm after. Now if that baby was flat black and smooth...

If it was, you don't know how much easier my life would have been for the past six weeks...
Although we'd like to offer it in about 3-4 styles (drawings were already done), the inserts for the mold and quantities of sale kind of have limited us to this one design for now.
Maybe someone will have one soon near you and seeing the finished one on a car will change your mind
!
I was the one who posted recently about the Zenon panel. The fit wasn't all that bad. A few circles of black vinyl around the medallion took care of it. Unless you get 2" away from it, you can't see it.
I tried that pre-cut one from Ebay . . . it was a disaster, and did not fit right.

Do it right the first time. Take your car to a good sign shop that uses 3M automotive quality vinyl products. Remove the emblem, cover the entire area and replace the emblem. Cost me $40, 7 year warranty and everyone thinks it's factory original. Also, if you are going for a nostalgic look consider flat black instead of gloss black. Looks meaner IMHO, but I like the gloss as well.

I've had my Xenon panel since April & didn't mind the gap around the rear emblem that much myself. The one problem I had was last week with all this heat & humidity here in Philly, the bottom right corner finally came loose giving it an un-even look. Couldn't get the tape to re-stick so I pulled the panel off. It was a job getting the rest of the tape off but finally got it to look clean. I'm going without the panel now. In future I'll probably try the vinyl, or when I have the bucks have it painted flat black. Good luck with yours. It did look good while it lasted & set it apart from the other stangs that had the bare back.
