I did a search, but couldn't find anything on this. I know some people have removed their rear emblem/badge to change them out. Can someone please tell me how to do it. I bought some vinyl to black out between the taillights and the guy recommended removing the badge rather than cutting a hole to go around it. Thanks in advance!
I haven't checked mine, but I've heard it's just a double sided adhesive holding it on, with no bolts/holes. Should just be able to get it warm with a hairdryer, maybe use a credit card or soft plastic wedge and gently pry it loose.
I used strong fishing line with hair dryer. It comes off pretty easy, but leaves a good deal of adhesive. There are actually two alignment pins with push nuts in the center. I used goo gone and WD-40 to remove remaining adhesive took about 1 hour. New badge from Ford comes with new tape just peel and stick.
There are definitely two holes there... pretty big ones too. Big enough to maybe stick the tip of your pinky finger in. If you are covereing that area with vinyl, it'll need to be pretty thick or you will see the indentions of the holes through the vinyl.
As far as what tape to use... you might not be able to get black foam double-sided tape thick enough at an auto parts store. I got the thickest stuff, and it starts to peel up because it's not as thick as the space between the trunk and the emblem. I bought a big roll of 1/8" thick 1/2" wide black 3M double-sided tape from some internet packaging company from when I installed my hood scoop. And that worked great. I went around the perimeter with one piece (using some adhesive promoter on the outside of the emblem first) and it holds great. The bad thing is I had to buy a 300' long roll of this foam tape. It's the smallest I could get. So, if anyone needs some for the emblem (or anything else) send me an PM.

Thanks for the good info, Ian. I went to a local body shop and the guy gave me some double sided tape and adhesive promoter for free. Very cool of him.
I installed blackout vinyl, then reinstalled the badge. It came out great...pics this weekend.

I'd stay away from the fishing line.
Like Fullthrottle24 said, it leaves a lot of the adhesive behind.
When I removed all the GT emblems from my '03, I tried it on the first one and had a lot of the tape left on the car.
On the 2nd two emblems, I just heated them up with a hair dryer, then slowly peeled them off after getting the edge started with a screwdriver and towel.
This method leaves almost nothing behind on the car and is MUCH easier to clean up.
