I'm all for people with V6 Mustangs adding bolt ons to look like GT's. As they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Have fun!!!

Well put

The big fogs and front bumper on the GT is every bit a designation badge as the little "GT" emblems themselves. In fact they shout GT going down the road long before anyone sees those emblems. So if you think the lights and bumper are OK, what is the big deal with the emblems?

As I've said before, in the 60s Ford had an advertising campaign encouraging turning base Mustangs into GT clones. They happily sold all the external bits over the counter so you could do just that. Turning base Mustangs into cars that look like GTs on the outside is nothing new.

As a community, in general terms, we are all very accepting about hanging some of the most god-awful looking crap on these cars. Everything from giant wagon wheels and GT500 stripes to illegal tinting and headlight covers. So why is it when some in the community want to put actual Ford Mustang parts on their cars some folks start popping their freeze plugs?

I am not knocking those of you who have this opinion. I'm a bit of a purist myself when it comes to the first generation cars. But driving around in one of these modded cars doesn't hurt anyone. And no one is going to get ripped off buying one thinking it is really a V8.

Just my thoughts on this old debate. Peace my brothers!

From my standpoint the deal with badging is the same as a company making a Rolex watch clone. If it simply resembles a Rolex, not a big deal. It becomes a big deal if you start actually stamping Rolex on them though. I'll have clear V6 badging on my car just as soon as I see a "V6" or "4.0" emblem that looks good to me.

You still can't beat the pony package for the price. A V6 manual with only the IUP and Pony Package is a steal of a deal. If I 'owned' mine, I would only do the dual conversion, the add-on gt like lower valance panel in black and the cdc chin spoiler to match the black rockers.

As long as you don't put "GT" badges(which I hate personally to start with over the bars)on the car it don't bother me.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that one of the things Ford said they were going to do with the new Mustang was make more effort to distinguish between the GT and base model.

The one thing that all of my friends remembered was that the GT had 4 lights up front.

Now with the stupid pony package, that statement isn't even true anymore. Thanks a lot Ford!

Ok, since this topic has been discussed before with people just getting angry, let us all laugh at something I saw today. I had a 00-04 V6 mustang in front of me, with the 5.7 Hemi Magnum emblem off the Ram truck today. I tried taking a pic with my camera phone, but could not get close enough. That is some funny pooe

That is SOOOO sweet. I missed him too.

Just joking. But, I'd have loved to be able to talk to the moron that had the Hemi eemblem on the the Mustang. I think that is one thing everyone can agree on is just WRONG.

I have GT bumpers and rims.

I like the look.

I paid $20,000 out the door for my V6.

GT Takeoff rims: $400
Bumpers/fogs: $750
Tint: $100
Dual exhaust: $350
GT leather seat covers $275
GT sway bars $150

Total: $22,025 so far. That total includes tax, shipping, labor, misc hardware. Everything.

Thats a far cry from the $30k+ dealers were soaking people for last year when I bought my car.

So why do you or any other GT owner care what I do with my V6?

Ive also owned some 200 six Mustangs/Falcons. I had just as much fun and liked them just as well as the GTs Ive owned.

Its all about the love of the cars and the hobby. Not what other people think, or keeping up with the Joneses.

I, on the other hand wonder why anyone would pay 3-5K over sticker for a car. Thats crazy. I wouldnt. I didnt.
All great points. Also some people are young or have lousy driving records and unless they're made of money that pretty much prohibits insuring a GT. Live and let live, it's great that people customize their cars to make 'em special. Also lets not forget the base mustang has 210 hp bone stock--that's no slouch in a car this size, and there's some pretty cheap mods out there to get more power out of them. Shelby's got the CS6 Mustang coming out with a Paxton supercharger that looks sweet and should be much less expensive than the GT500. They say think of it as the modern-day GT350. Bet it will be faster than a stock GT..

I've added V6 parts to my GT - removed the GT trunk emblem and fender emblems and put on the running horse trunk emblem and fender emblems. The ponies look better than the GT emblems.
where did you get your fender emblems??

How about when a dealer adds the front and rear bumpers and GT badges to sell the car? I got the manager to joyously admit to adding those touches to the car, then promptly deny he had anything to do with it when I asked if he knew it was a 6.

I think "fraud' is the word there, though I'm suprised any dealer would stoop that low...no, on second thought, maybe i'm not...

I guess if it's your car, you can do what you want with it. Some of the garbage I see on EBay is really sickening. I wish I had Photoshop and could make a pic of an Ebay mustang garbage wagon. Would be kinda funny to see.
