Random idea, mystichrome...
Random idea, mystichrome...
So, anyone have any thoughts on painting an S197 mystichrome? Specifically with the foose designed fang style hood and a shaker.

I'm in a situation where it would be reasonable to paint my car with mystichrome, though I'm not sure it would really work with the shaker. Maybe an 03/04 style Mach 1 stripe would help. Problem is I have a hard time picturing it.

I seen an 2005 Saleen Xtreme Mystic, the guy had 1 of 2 that were made and it cost him $18000 extra for the paint job....? Nice but it really isn't the ole Cobra Mystic, That is IMO a one of a kind car and should be left alone....
The old mystic had the actual color of money in it and if you hada scratch ou would have to fill out paper work and all kinds of stuff to get touch up and the touch up would only be the exact amount of paint needed. - so i hear
The body shop I'm working with got ahold of a pint of the paint pretty easily. This is the purpleish-blue-green color that the 2004 Cobras had, and not the older color used on the 96.
The reason I'm tempted is because the painter misread the paint code on my Vista Blue car (it's G9) as G6 (the mystichrome) and already painted the hood with it. He's not charging me for his mistake and is willing to get the hood back to the right color, though after seeing it in person I'm tempted to do the rest of the car in it. Since the hood already came precut for the shaker, I'd keep the shaker system installed.
I found this photoshopped image, anyone here handy enough to add in the shaker so I can get an idea for the look?

There was a company that posted up pictures not too long ago of their cars and one of them was similar to the mystic chrome paint. A couple of the cars had Eleanor style bodykits on them with lambo doors. It was the cars that they built at a show or something. I'll see if I can find it.
Here ya go.

What's even the question here? Of coarse go for it!!!! Very unique and awesome. Mystichrome is way differant than the wild Saleen color or the old 96 Mystic. It's more mellow, less of color changing going on.
Well, you see the hood now, do you like it?
If you go for it I would recommend that you have the paint shop document why the cars' color change. Upon resale it might be thought to have been wrecked or damage that caused the paint change. My .02

Gah, can't decide. I'm going to have to think more about this before going for it.
This shot in particular looks amazing:

I'm still worried about the look with the shaker though, something big and flat black right in the middle of the glossy color changing hood is hard to picture accurately. I'll probably see if we can lay the hood on the car before I decide either way.

Just a thought that could break up the plain blackness of the shaker scoop and make it flow better with the rest of the paint scheme, you could paint the ribs on top of the shaker silver or something...to give it a little bling to go with the paint better.
An idea a friend of mine had is to swap out the front end for the GT500 front end. The thought behind this is to remove one of the key retro looking pieces and replace it with the more modern looking front end to work better with the color shifting paint.
It's definitely tempting...

well i think it looks good. really cool paint. i wish they could make paint do that with just like a red and black color mixed up.... i would paint mine in a heartbeat.
if you like it, do it. you wont regret it, youll have a one of a kind stang and something to show off all the time.

GT500 front fascia would look sweet. Do it.
So after much thought last night, I'm not going to go for it, and instead stay with my plans for a 69 Mach 1 style setup. What kept killing it for me is the shaker, and the fang hood. I just couldn't see those elements fitting in properly with a paint job that reflects a more modern Cobra Mustang. The GT500 front end would have helped this, but there is still the problem of the shaker and the hood.
It would have been a cool plan if the car was stock though.
Thanks for the input everyone. I'm glad I took my friends advice and thought about it for a few days, it was enough time for me to get over the initial impact of the paint, and really properly think about all aspects to it.
